Hello, let me introduce myself. I'm an Italian student currently studying Computer Science. I've always been trying to not conform to others, going "against the current", like Munch in his "Evening on Karl Johan Street".

Now let's talk about my most negative characteristic. I'm a serial procrastinator when it's time to start something, even if once started I won't stop until I've achieved my goal. Just to make an example, I promised to myself to start waking up everyday at 6am at the start of July, I've just achieved this goal. Yes, more than three months later.

I've been earning online as a stable income of 400$/m since I was 17 (I'm 19 now), job that I had to leave due to my high school exams (we graduate at 19 here). Did it worth it? Yes and not. Yes because I won a money prize as I got an high grade, not because I don't have that stable income anymore.

My goal is to have a high stable income before I end university in 2022, as I'm not that kind of guy who says: "I'll wait until I get a bachelor before applying for a job". The point is that I don't want to apply for a job. As my character doesn't allow me to have a boss, I have no chance than to be a freelancer, also because I love travelling, so a 9/5 job wouldn't allow me to do that.

Now let me introduce my project.
As you have read in the title, I want to build an Authority Site, basing my income in ads, affiliate etc.
I've already find a good niche, with a low SEO Difficulty (Max 30 for short keywords - Max 10 for long tail keywords). All these keywords have a search volume that ranges between 10k and 300k.
Before I forget, the site will be in Italian, as the competition is way lower. The second position of many long tail keyword (20K SV) are occupied by some websites with a 3rd level domain names, so it shouldn't be difficult to outrank them, as they aren't even optimized (poor load speed, poor user experience etc.).

I'm going to update this journey daily to keep me motivated, as I said this is a long term project, I don't expect to reach my goal in few days, nor in few months but in years. I'll include in the update expenses, google analytics reports and my todolist.
Also, just to clarify, I'm not going to buy backlinks nor articles, I'm going to do everything by myself, doesn't matter how much time it takes. With this journey I want to learn SEO strategies and tricks, not hire someone to do this for me.

So what I've done until now:
  1. Find a niche (I think this is the most difficult step to do).

What I have to do:
  1. Find and buy a domain (maybe an expired one with a DA < 20 - Just to avoid to start from 0)
  2. Setup a VPS - I'll start with Vultr and CentMinMod (1Gb High Frequency) [6$+VAT/m]
  3. Setup WordPress
  4. Setup a Theme - I'll use Jannah [0$ as I have access to Festinger's Vault]
  5. Setup a Cookie and Privacy Policy
  6. Be GDPR Compliance
  7. Setup a mailing list
  8. Setup a Youtube Channel to drive traffic to my site.
  9. Write 10 articles and make related videos (if possible)
  10. Apply my site to Adsense (I already have an adsense account, so the process should take less time).
More... (I'll ad more things to the todo list in future updates.)

So that's all until now. I'll give you an update tomorrow, hoping I'll find a domain with a good DA soon.
I hope this journey will inspire some of you to start your own journey.

Until now:
Profit: 0€
Expenses: 0€

I'll list profits and expenses in euros as I live in EU.

Usually this kind of journeys don't go too far.
Let's see if yours shows progress.

Work hard.

hi, good luck with your travel! i am a noob myself, but from what i gather around here, trust flow (majestic) is a most trusty metric that DA (which seems to be not very good). may want to investigate it for yourself before commiting to one domain. remember majestic gives you up to 4 (plus 1 before loggin) free checks, so take advantage of that while searching for expired domains!

Thanks for the tip! I've checked Majestic trust flow before buying the domain.
I've found a domain which expired yesterday with a DA of 23, 0 spam score, a good trust flow, and some genuine backlinks coming from websites with a DA of 75-85.

So, this is what I've done from the last update:
- Searching a buying a good domain.
- VPS Setup
- WordPress Setup

What I'm going to do today:
- Plugins Setup
- Theme Setup
- Category / Menu / Widgets Setup

Until now:
Profit: 0€
Expenses: 1,21€

-1,21€ for the Domain Name

Sounds very interesting and promising. Following your journey. Please keep up the hard work.

What is the previous online gig?

Good luck,

Thanks,

Looking forward to your success.

You personally making your videos yourself? I want to start making some as well, but I don't think my content fits to be made into video. What is your niche?

nice,

anyway I still confuse on Authority site. What and what's the difference between an authority site vs normal site?

Any particular reason why you've decided against buying articles for content?

Yeah, I'll make these videos by myself. It's hard to explain my niche without revealing it, what I can say is that it's related to tech.

Good luck, SEO need to hard work!

Thanks. I know, SEO needs hard work, but it pays off!

nice,

anyway I still confuse on Authority site. What and what's the difference between an authority site vs normal site?

While others make micro-niche sites, linking then until they rank, with the goal of XXX$/m, authority sites aim to get high positions on SERP even without many backlinks, because their authority is so high that google cannot just ignore them.

Any particular reason why you've decided against buying articles for content?

Well, the main reason is because I'm enough expert about the niche to write them by myself. Also I plan to write 2-3K words per article (It's the average of my competitor), and as the niche needs an high knowledge, it would be hard to find someone to write these kind of articles.

Good luck with the journey.

Thanks!

Nothing, it's just a fancy word to make it looks awesome. :D
And good luck with your journey, OP

Good Luck For Your Journey OP!
Good wish for your journey.
All the best. I hope your journey become a path for newbies to follow.

Thanks.

Unfortunately yesterday I didn't have time to make the daily update.

I've end the setup of the whole website, including privacy and cookie policy.
I've restored 9 articles (700-2K words each), from the old website. I recovered them thanks to archive.org
I've restored almost all the backlinks making 301 redirects to the restored articles. I had to change permalinks as the permalinks the previous owner was using were not SEO-Friendly.
I'll restore last articles and backlinks tomorrow. Then I'll start writing new articles by myself.

Until now:
Profit: 0€
Expenses: 18,31€

-17,10€ Iubenda (Privacy Policy + Cookie Policy + Consent Management)

I wish you luck my friend. Which part of Italy are you from? I've been to Rome, it's a beautiful city.
