Radio Ads - Has Anyone Done It?

Planning a radio promotion campaign. Some people are against it while other love it. I just wonder if the return is good? 8k is the estimate for 1 months, 6 spots of 30 sec per day, local radio. It might sound expensive but i think i can make 7-8 times that amount

For a local business, i.e carpet cleaning I'm assuming?

It really depends on the niche: That's probably why you've heard some people saying it's shit, and some people praising it. I guess it needs to be a really wide category so to speak, and not extremely niche.

Example: If you sell insurance, it might work. If you sell nipple clamps for midgets it probably won't.

I have never done this myself but it's a really interesting topic. A few months back I was thinking if anyone has tried drop shipping + TV ads.

1) Why exactly do you estimate a 7x return on the campaign?
2) Are you able to do a shorter campaign to see if you can get some kind of roi before spending that kind of money? $8000 is an expensive test.

If I were you, I would try contacting other local businesses who have run the same kind of ads in your area and asked what kind of return they got and whether they would recommend it.

You can reach a lot of people with radio and tv ads but that isn't necessarily a good thing. With Google ads, Facebook ads, etc. you can be highly specific with your targeting and get your business in front of people who are actively searching for what you are offering.

if you want to go offline, I`d rather go direct mailing (where you could have on print creatives company info + website link + social media) + local FB and Google Ads (as a bonus from your radio budget ) Why? Cause it would work better. You won`t be able to track radio + each radio has its own audience and they don`t tend to give you real data about their listeners.

What's the targeting you can get on radio? If you're after audio targeting, I'd suggest you go with Spotify. They have interest, location, and gender based targeting.

I agree with the whole flyers idea, if radio seems to be a good idea then reinvest it in small amounts over time?

What part of Dublin are you based, few pints?

I tired my local Radio, got nothing from it.

According to me local radio ads are completely unnecessary and very expensive.

From my experience (no idea what your promoting so may not apply)

- Service roles have not gone well unless it's seasonal (i.e boiler service / fix in winter)

- If it's promoting a website get as short as url as possible. Targeted pages don't work as people won't remember to type gotomywebsite.com/radio1 INSTEAD before the promotion make sure you got 1-3 in google page 1 for a branded search or produced term so you can just say "search WEB99" to find out more.

- Don't give codes or offers where users can confuse numbers with letters (does happen)

If it's event based or limited time local deal / promo facebook adverts have offered us the best return.

Sometimes it's best to just dump a ton of money in taking out 3 months worth of full page ads in the local paper(s) it's not that expensive local papers will do discounts on bulk run or do what we do. Design a pile of adverts for different page sizes then phone up the paper 30min before deadline asking for a last min slot - if you have the art work and you can send it over while on the phone (or just coming off the phone) you can pay with a 75%+ discount THIS also works with national papers.
