Hey BHW,

1) My brother is looking at potentially buying a rare instagram username. It’s 4 letters, it’s a first name/nickname, the seller reports that the lowest he can do is $5000. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the prices of 4 letter accounts. Do you think there is a potential to resell this account for higher?

Also,

2) Just wondering, is there an easy way to transfer the name of this account over onto a personal IG? I just have a feeling if you tried to do it manually there may be bots out there fishing for OG rare instagram names and they might just snake the account during the timeframe of changing the first username to something else and then logging into the second account and copying this name. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

1)5K is a lot.You better know why you're spending that cash. From my little personal experience , content matters more than the name.

2)Dunno about bots. Get 2 phones. Transfer quick ,deal done.

1) It really depends on the name, personal names/nicknames generally are hard to sell unless they are common names and if so, can be worth the price. I don't really see a personal name going for that much but I could be wrong depending on what it is
2) The biggest mistake you'll make is trying to swap a very high-value name onto another account. You'll more than likely lose it, even if you pay someone to swap it or use a turbo/claimer

hes still not safe.anything above 3k i would go for a middle man service like escrow. the value of the handle depends on the buyer it could be useless to you and could mean the world to a company/brand owners

It’s a good price for a 4 letter name that is widely acknowledged.
Now, if you could get together and do legal paperwork for the transfer, with lawyers, that would be great and safest way.
If both of you are in different countries, the scamming ratio goes up.
Even using an escrow is not a done deal.
Even after the sale, whomever has access to the original phone number and/or original email used to create the account can claw-back the account, stating that it was hacked or password stolen.

Don't do an username transfer, the username will be snatched up. Make sure the person gives you the account with the username and password.

Damn, thanks for the replies guys. Seems like it’s not worth it if there isn’t that guarantee of being able to transfer the usernames. The account he’s got has 30k legit followers. Even if he did buy it, I doubt the followers would all flock to the new name. May only get a few thousand come across.

1. 5000 is very expensive, and it seems to me not worth it. Moreover, such offers often come from scammers. Be very careful.
2. Most likely this is impossible.

Can't say expensive or not if you don't know the circumstances. Maybe he has a brand with the same name that makes millions in profit
