If this ever became a reality, how do you pay for anything when there's a blackout? And when internet's not available?

That's not a concern of anyone. Cell towers will still work and 96% of US population have cell phones.

And power is never down so long that all of society can't function. Usually a day or two at the most. Companies would also give additional days to make payments, from such unforseen circumstances.

From a business standpoint, a cashless society removes a huge amount of headache. No more worrying about register drawers not being balanced at the end of the day. No worry of employee stealing cash. Nearly impossible to mess up a transaction. All accounting is handled instantly, and recorded in ledger. Instant analytics and analysis down to the minute. No worry of getting held up for cash once robbers know there is no cash in the store to be had. So many pluses.

Unfortunately it's a losing battle. The payment processing companies are pushing hard for cashless society. Square will even give away hardware and offer no fees for six months if you agree to become cashless. The payment companies know, once they flip companies, they will have society by the balls, forever. Then, every single purchase of our lives can be data mined, tracked, etc. and most importantly, the payment processing companies will get a few of 100% of transactions. Trillion dollar industry.

It is a losing battle. I don't really care that much about data mining and tracking and all that. I care about freedom.

I don't think I will ever be in this situation, but imagine the future where a person has a wrong opinion about something and the banking institutions ban that person (they already do this for serious cases - terrorists and whatnot). At that point what happens when they ban you, you can't use the payment systems, and there's no cash. You can't make money, you can't eat, you're done.

At that point just expand it, and you're done. Pro abortion? Against abortion? Criminal record for some bullshit that shouldn't be illegal in the first place? Wrong political opinion? Pagan? Whatever, banned no banking for you, and there's no cash. And then you die, it's over.

Revolt against an evil government? They control all the money, they'll shut you down in 5 minutes. It's over.

Bank was 15 minute drive but the floods interrupted all traffic, there were cars floating and a waterfall by a overpass crossing I needed to take.

I had no cash, credit card machines in the region were down. Everyone had a cell phone but it was useless.

A nearby shop where folks know me sold me stuff I needed for the night and said I could pay later. That saved me for the night.

Now how the hell would this situation work without cash? Store owner was kind enough to give me credit because they knew me, I live nearby. Everyone else was paying cash.

You can't have a society without cash. It's not just about having the right to not be traced, it's also about keeping things going.

Bank was 15 minute drive but the floods interrupted all traffic, there were cars floating and a waterfall by a overpass crossing I needed to take.

I had no cash, credit card machines in the region were down. Everyone had a cell phone but it was useless.

A nearby shop where folks know me sold me stuff I needed for the night and said I could pay later. That saved me for the night.

Oh the other day I got stuck in the middle of nowhere, if I had a car and there's no gas stations nearby and i would be stuck forever. But my good horse was there and had some water and took me home.
