How to Build Niche Edit Links?

Since the last few months, there has been a huge rise in the number of Niche Edit links services and apparently everyone has a database of 100s of websites.
So my question is what is the process to build such links?
Is it just hacking (as one of the earlier posts of BHW suggested) or these sellers actually develop reltionships with the site owners?

Very curious to know what is the process behind it.

Yes considering the ethical way, niche edits are just as same as guest post outreach.
But when I see sellers are having hundreds and thousands of sites, it raises a flag. They can be SAPE links as well isnt it?

I dont think hacking such old sites is so easy - but then again what do I know?!

There was a thread here on BHW where it was discussed heavily. They often purchase Wordpress plugins/themes that have tons of users, then inject their "special" code and release an update = Boom, thousands of sites vulnerable for a link inject. (Something like that)

EDIT: Or release nulled themes/plugins on shady sites with the harmful code in them.

Based on the spam emails I receive, I think some sellers send mass emails to domain owners and offer to pay them $X per link, then charge the buyer extra on top.
