I don’t want to say my agency name out loud, so to make this easier, let’s just say I’m called Lemon Marketing.

When I used to search up my full agency name, I was about. 20th in the rankings.

Now I also have 3 different like sub pages, so one of them would look like this:

Ad management | Lemon Marketing

This was ranked probably really far down, nowhere near my home page, which came up in the search engine as:

Lemon Marketing

Now suddenly after getting a free link building service from a certain someone on this forum, my home page Lemon Marketing went from 20th to 60th when searching up the exact same name.

In fact, it’s dropped so low, that it’s now lower in the search rankings for that keyword than the

Ad management | Lemon Marketing

Does anyone know how this is possible?

I know this might all be hard to understand, but to sum it up, when you search my agency name, on of my sub pages now comes up as like 25th and my actual home page comes up as 60th or something ridiculous...

As an amateur SEO viewer, my suggestion would be to avoid free services.

There's even a stink over paid services up to like $100

Anything less will hurt you

What I would do is rebuild up organically with no finesse, until you test on a dummy competitor site in the same nixhe you own

It might be keyword cannabilization somehow? When you have two pages with the same keyword and Google gets confused and tries to rank the same page. I had this same issue last year; a site ranked with it's homepage for a search term I had an inner page optimized for. It sorted itself out after I removed the keywords from homepage.

In this case it's a bit odd, I mean, I always have my site name in the meta titles such as "Keyword to Rank Here | Site Name".

How long time ago was the link building package done on your site? Could be a Google dance at the moment?

PS. Did you build links with the site name as anchor on the inner page?

Really?

Really?
I think it was done like a week ago.

When the links were built, I just gave him my website, so www.(agencyname).co.uk

If it's your first SEO campaign, try to diversify your backlinks to avoid google dance

@tglr it shouldn't be keyword cannibalisation if the term we're talking about is the brand name.

@LaurenceM if it has only been a week then just wait. It is common for pages to drop when link building has been carried out. It's likely just part of the Google Dance. Don't do anything rash.

That being said, it's a little surprising that you weren't on the first page of the SERPs originally for your own brand name. Is the name quite a genetic industry term?

Yeah I know, that's what I meant when I said it's odd. Never had the same issue myself.
