I voted for the leg breaking, that is because i like to use extreme force on people like hackers and squatters, and secondly i think on invite is the best option to make it saver.

I've been on about the invitation thing with a few people in IRC, it's a great idea. Don't want to be exclusive but at this point so many assfucks somehow stumble upon this place and ruin the great time.

I vote: Go to Invite Only, my second choice is SMF. Breaking legs will not solve THE problem, though would give some satisfaction along with legal troubles.

I have on idea what smf is but my vote is whatever is necessary to maintain the integrity of the forum. Invite only, smf, whatever.

I say stick to these forums but have the protection come from the server and not from the PHP forums themselves.

I don't know much about securing a server but software like http://www.modsecurity.org seems would be able to protect from any future attacks because it checks the urls for malicious urls being sent to the server and the php script themselves could have as many explots but the protection will come from the software and not the PHP script.

its possible the hole was in some of the addons, which is free, and unsupported by the vbulletin.

get rid of the add ons then. i'd rather an add-on free vbulletin than any other forum software. Vbulletin is by far the best IMHO.

Same, I would never switch to another forum software from vBulletin. I've used pretty much every forum software and would never use anything other than vBulletin. Just make sure the mods are up to date and secure before installing them.

Invite only would be kewl. Like our own private members only site. NOt only would this protect us from hackers but also from Affil mgrs and affiliate parents from seeing everything etc. etc.

I agree with this though I voted (1) because I feel overall that while changing the site to invite only won't prevent a hack attempt if someone really wanted to do it. Sooner or later if someone wanted to screw with the site they'd arrange to get an invite in from someone or just try to hack it without one.

1. Sever security software would be a huge help whether it be http://www.modsecurity.org, http://firewallscript.com/ or something similar.

2. I do think SMF is a great forum software and likely more secure vs VB.

3. Invites are great (as long as I get one *g*) but 1 and 2 would be more useful.
