Hello

I have been in the SEO game for a long time but have not been active the last few years, I am going to build a new niche site and earn from displaying ads and also through amazons affiliate program.

In this journey I will share my exact methods. I have started this tread to give back to the community and also keep me motivated.

My Goals are

1st - Earn $100 a month
2nd - Earn $200 a month
3rd - Earch $500 a month
4th - Earch $1000 a month

I am hoping I can reach my goals in 1 year time. I have done the following already.

Picked a niche by searching amazon products. I have choosen a product in the health niche. I decided I will pick this niche because

-Not to many strong websites in this niche
-decent amount of long tail keywords I can go for (traffic 50-500 searches a month)
-I am confident I can write much better articles than what are currently in the top 10 positions of google
-I think the product will convert well

Registered a Domain name. Ok here I found an expired domain (10 years old and 700 links to homepage) The reason why I did this is because I think this site will rank quicker than a new domain. Do you agree?

Installed + Configured wordpress. My must have plugins are

Ewww image optimizer (+ enable image lazy load)
Ultimate nofollow (Nofollow all of my external links)
WP Performance
Yoast SEO

Theme = Keratin (Heavily modified) Page speed is

pagespeed score = 98%
Yslow score = 77%
Fully load time = 1.8s

I have also enabled https on my site

Keyword research So at first I am targeting long tail keywords. I am also targeting two types of keywords, Questions + Buying intent.

Long tail keyword Questions (For example, "How Do I Configure The Contrast Setting on a Cannon 345 Camera") These types of searches I will place more ads in the articles I create to try to make more money from ads. Typically these keywords have 100-500 searches per month

Buying intent long tail keywords (For example, "Is the Cannon 345 Camera worth buying?" these keywords will have less ads on the page and will have links to affiliate pages. Typically these keywords have 50-100 searches per month, I am hoping because they are buying intent searches they should convert well.

I want to target long tail keywords at first as this is the easiest way to get traffic to my new site. When my site has more authority I will start to target keywords with higher search volumes.

How did I find these keywords. I search google and get a list of websites in my niche. I then use neil patel ubersuggest tool to export what keywords the site is ranking for. I then go through the list manually removing keywords I dont wont. This is a good way to find long tail keywords.

I then take these keywords and run them through Traffic Travis (There are other tools available) I extract the low competition keywords.

I then head over to google and enter the keyword, google will then autosuggest some searches. I will choose one of the autosuggest to write an article about.

Any comments about how to improve my keyword research is much appreciated.

Writing the article. Here I will check the articles of the top 5 ranking sites in google. I will check how many words each article has and I will then write an articles with more words.

Write the highest quality article you can.

Write a title with a click worthy text (Not click bate) for example (Best contract settings for Cannon 345 camera | You Didnt Know Existed!) Dont say something in the title you cant back up, people will bounce.

Site update

I plan to update this thread once a month with the following details

Traffic To Site This Month = 2 Visitors
Earnings = $0
Affiliate Sales = 0
Article Written This Month = 10
Total Articles = 10

Tasks left for this month. Write 5 more articles 1000+ words each

Let me know if you have any questions

Good luck, I'll be watching your journey!

I hope you get more as you go along your journey. As you were gone for the past years as you say, how has it been upon coming back?

I have bought keywords before but prefer to do this work myself. I think finding the right keywords it the most important part in the process.

SMALL UPDATE

Been playing with my theme and managed to get the below score on gtmetrix

Can you please explain what have you done for getting so good page speed?

Plugins or any modifications?

do you write content by yourself?
I write about half, I have a writer I found on upwork that currently writes for me.

Thanks for the question, I am using a theme called Keratin Theme, to optimise it I have done the following

1 - Installed addon WP Performance + Configured
2 - Installed addon EWWW Image Optimizer + enabled lazy load images.

I am currently not running any ads on my site, my page speed will increase when I add ads

UPDATE : I spent a few hours yesterday looking for longtail keywords and I managed to find 65 good keywords. I am coming up with a plan of writing articles for all of these keywords.

Solid plan mate and that pagespeed score is awesome. Good luck I'm following :-)

I'm also building a site to make some incomes from Adsense. I publish 1 article each day, I didn't do SEO yet because most of the keywords are low competition, and have 2 kW already got in top 10.

I see most of my competitors, they upload a lot of article on their site in a short time after uploaded enough (around 400 articles each site )these sites seem to have no more activity, no SEO at all but still have a lot of traffic. Anyone know their method?

how many articles do you publish each day? and how you do SEO for your site? PBN, or outreach GP?

Following! I'm in basically the same boat as you. :)

Question about the Ultimate NoFollow plugin - is it right to nofollow every external link?

If your have 400 related pages of good content you have done all the seo you need to in most cases

I am aiming for 10 articles a month. I do no link building at this time, I will do in the future when I target keywords with higher searches. For me SEO is

1 - Create a title that will attract clicks that is not click bate, backup the reason why the visitor clicked on your link in google search
2 - Dont try to rank for single keywords, write long quality articles that can rank for lots of long tail keywords
3 - To rank in google you need to have good bounce rate and time on page / site, writing high quality articles will give this
4 - Link to other internal articles on your site, this will pass link juice,.
5 - Be prepared for it to take a long time to see traffic

Question about the Ultimate NoFollow plugin - is it right to nofollow every external link?
I would say no follow all external links, why do you want to give external sites link juice?
