Why is mentoring not allowed on BHW?

One on one via Skype is fine; I would not do that but it is not against the rules.

A skype group is not fine and will get one a warning for promoting other forums.
Great, so it's allowed to mentor people via Skype or DM or any other chat service privately and without costs and no re-direct to any paid service? @BassTrackerBoats
That's basically what @yakuzaemme wanted, didn't you? :D

This was what I thought would be the primary reason not to allow free mentoring.

Which is also why I asked about the integrated chat on the forum. From my understanding there are pre-made plugins for this for Xenforo already.
If you're referring to the normal shoutbox / chatbox plugin, I don't get it. What does this have to do with 1-on-1 mentoring or your basic question?

I do know some people are very eager to learn and with a mentor they could thrive.

I have had some wonderful tips on here. People are very friendly. And most of them seem to like helping or not to mind, they can probably relate to your situation once having been a beginner themselves and want to help you up the stairs.

I do believe that paid mentoring wouldn't be right like they said.

Anyhow I myself am one of the people that feels having a mentor that has had succes is a GREAT, even life-changing opportunity. I would for example love to have the chance.

Have a great night everyone.

Will do!

For now though, as I want to be perfectly clear.
Would this be considered as allowed?

1) Create a thread in Jr. Vip offering free 1-to-1 mentoring through DMs or Skype
2) Clearly make sure it's free, and I get zero benefit from it, direct or indirect.
3) Put in my signature that I offer free 1-to-1 mentoring in the Jr. Vip forum

This would both help members on the forum looking for that extra help, and possibly the forum getting more people upgraded to Jr. Vip.

No, that is not allowed as mentoring is not permitted.

Free/Paid/Paying the guy you are mentoring.

I really don't want to be rude, but perhaps our definition of the word mentoring differs.

"the act or process of helping and giving advice to a younger or less experienced person*"

My understanding from your post (and @Zwielicht) was that helping people, one to one, for free was allowed.

Is it only not allowed to move that conversation outside the forum?

If so, why? Sorry for my curiousity :D

What I know, consultation BST threads are allowed but each user needs to get concrete, the same service like SEO audit, on site SEO service, etc.
I had such BST in the past, closed because small demand for such services.

I don't care what the dictionary says.

Mentoring and coaching is not allowed on BHW.

Should someone take a person off site to mentor or coach and we see that was done because you cannot do it here we will consider the intent and act in an appropriate manner.

I think @BassTrackerBoats means that opening a thread, no matter if offered free or paid, for a mentoring, it's not allowed.
However, if I would DM you because of a thread / tutorial and got some questions left and we move our discussion from countless BHW DMs to Skype, it isn't forbidden. At least, that's my understanding of @BassTrackerBoats statement(s). As this isn't 1-on-1 mentoring, it's the act of me asking question and you're spending your time me answer these.

Helping on one specific thing for free is different from becoming a bullshit guru directing a person towards something you don't even know works. SEO doesn't depend 100% on you, search engines can change. It generates a clusterfuck when search algorithm changes and the mentored person wants to kill the mentor because they "were scammed".

what happened to cause the ban of it?
Visit warrior forum and you will know the answer ;) Its forum full of WSO's like learn how to run $10k/month business for $49 monthly / one time. Mostly (in 99% of cases) all these WSOs are worthless shit offered by people who don't earn anything so they try to earn something by "hey I'm guru I will teach you blablabla". It's better to protect the community from such "mentoring" activity, I think that's why mentoring is banned.

If you want to add some value to forum write a guide about something you are good at :)

1 more thing - people who need mentoring are mostly lazy - they prefer to ask a question instead of taking few minutes to look for the answer (mostly you can get some answers by doing 10 minute research via google). Expecting answers instead of looking for them is opposite to learning. From this point of view mentoring is useless because people you would mentor won't really learn anything because they are not looking to learn.

I hear you load and clear. Will post that suggestion about the live chat, it could be a nice supplement to the forum!

To me, mentoring is exactly that. People ask questions, I answer. Exactly like the AMA threads. Which is what boggles me, either my understanding of the particular word mentoring is wrong - or it's where the Q&A takes place that is forbidden. At this point I'm too afraid to ask haha.

Wouldn't an AMA or Q&A pose the same risk? As I wrote above, I think my personal definition of the word mentoring might be off. To me, Q&A (you ask question - I answer) is mentoring.

I'm even more confused now as when I started this thread :D

I totally get you as my understanding of mentoring differs to the definition @BassTrackerBoats is apparently referring to, but on the other hand, I think I know what he means: The act of offering mentoring itself isn't allowed.
But if you have an AMA thread or a guide, e.g. about finding the perfect supplier and I'm stuck with something I can either post below the thread or for a personal question, for e.g., DM you or contact you through other instances / platforms / messaging services, such as Skype. At least, that's how I interpreted and read it in this thread :)

The staff does not oversee the entire internet and if you take someone off the site we cannot protect either party.

I know you pretty well, @yakuzaemme, and I'm 99.9% sure you would not take someone off site to set them up for a version of the movie, The Sting, but the reason we do not encourage that is content in public helps everyone and content on the site protects everyone should an issue arise.

Public content helps all... private content may only help one at best.

Its a very fine line in many aspects. I have bought EBooks before and some times those Ebooks included private Channels only for those people that bought the book. I always took it that you cant ask for an additional payment. Of course then their is the Joint JV where someone might post will trade my xyz ability for your ability, but it can be disguised as mentoring if its worded the right away.

Yeah we're talking different things.

If you establish a continuing relationship based on guiding someone towards something, that's mentoring in this context.

I've floated the idea of a live chat previously.

I think it wouldn't work with the entire forum, but it's something that could work for Jr VIP members and I would imagine it could be fairly active.

You're looking at the literal meaning of the word, as opposed to the context in the internet marketing community.

The staff don't like people being taken off site for a variety of reasons. I have no doubt there have been issues well before my time on here with this as I know people can end up parting big bucks for mentoring etc. and there will undoubtedly be some horror stories.

Yeah, I totally get that. I just want to shine some clarity on the rule itself, as I really don't understand it.

I think you know my intentions @BassTrackerBoats. I've not made a dime on this forum since I joined, and always looking for new and more ways to help members - some of which I PM you beforehand to get feedback on.
I'm probably one of the most open guys on the forum, not afraid to share any sensitive data or spill my secrets. My only intention is to help newbies in IM with my experience, as it's extremely motivating.

I think a live chat or live board would make things much easier and more effective, and rooting for that the new BHW has it.

If that's the case, my questions is in regards to the literal meaning. Simply, a Q&A, but one-to-one.

Yeah, I know your intentions are golden but we have a kijillion of others whose intentions are not and thus we have to draw a line in the sand.

You cannot manage a community this large without having hard fast rules in some instances.

You, I trust implicitly but we have to manage as a whole and at times that means throwing the baby out with the bath water for the safety of the community.

I totally understand. Q&A/mentoring is not allowed outside the forum because it hinders mods to see if something fishy is going on.

I'm already working on my suggestion thread for the live chat. This thread may be closed I guess since it's not a suggestion of rule change, just clarification of the rule itself.
