Do you mean keyword tools? If you have 3 months without traffic.
There is a wrong way to promote your service.
You can buy SEO tools to accelerate getting traffic.
You need to learn a lot
You've said it all.If you did good in math in school you know it's a certainty you will fail more than you will succeed and that each failure increase the probability of success
According to studies around 90% of all ecommerce sites earn less than $1000 a year which means the probability of failure if you try once is more than 9/10.
The good news is though that independent events are multiplied in probability theory which means the probability of failure decreases for each try (i.e. probability of success increase for each try).
Let's say you try to start a successful ecommerce website but fail 3 times in a row for different reasons.
If you try again a forth time your probability of failure has decreased to 81% which means the probability of success has increased to 19%.
The summary is that it's, more or less, a mathematical certainty that you sooner or later will succeed if you just continue trying and learn from your mistakes.

Sure.
But I think everyone has a different definition of failure. Just like buying stocks, we need to have a line to stop loss.
Hey guys,
We have heard too many success stories here, but no one has told us about the failure before success. I think everyone has a failed experience. For a blog or a niche site, when will you give up it? 90-days with no traffic or anything else?

According to O’Leary, “There’s a simple rule to determine when it’s time to shut your startup: three years.”
“If you can’t make money after 36 months, and there’s no path to making money, it was a hobby, not a business. You have to take it behind the barn and shoot it,” he says.
I have to disagree with this. I've seen 4 year-old websites just leaving their content there and not updating anything and still ranks #1. I guess it depends which niche you go into.SEO is not a get rich quick scheme, niche sites are hard work. You need time, budget, plan and experience. You're screwed though if you pick the wrong niche because you'll be fighting a losing battle. If you want to rank quickly with easy keywords, then look into the keyword golden ratio. One site I started this year is in a seasonal niche started in Jan/Feb. Rankings where meh and progress was slow but July has been a great month and rankings continue to rocket. You need to have patience.
Secondly, with niche sites, you need to pump out content like your life depends on it if you really want to grow traffic and $. There is no other way.
I like this bit of advice from Kevin O'Leary:
