To all, thanks for the feedback but bear with me, I understand the part of taking on the big boys is extremely difficult but whats your take on thebestvpn.com and restore privacy? Both of these domains are similar to mine yet they do have taken on the big boys and rank in top 10. What's your take guys ?

Well I've seen that restore privacy site and they recommend Brave so anyone with a brain (or Etherape) will know those recommendations are BS.... But geez you can't get much better than thebestvpn in terms of on-page seo - all that info right on the homepage, they will be hard to beat.

Except top 3 results I have better and more authoritative links. I seriously don't understand what am I missing? If you look at theverge and forbes, they have very less referring domains plus their website is not of same niche. In fact my whole site revolves around VPN niche. Secondly there are three results such as techradar, tomsguide and itproportal who comes under the same company which is future plc and they all have exchanged links with each other. Their content structure is even same!

Don't take this the wrong way but you are not fit to take on these sites with the knowledge, resources and the skillset you possess right now.

You are expecting the people here, who are just as clueless as you are, to decipher Google billion $$$ algo for you. None of us in here is a Google search engineer and we can only make guesses as to why you are not ranking where you are supposed to in the SERPs.

Once you go to the big boy territory, rules of the game change completely. Google is not going to rank just about any site with better third-party metrics like TF, CF, DR, UR, DA, PA (which Google never uses).

So, let me break it down for you step-by-step.

1. First things first, Verge and Forbes have a lot more RDs than your domain. You can't and won't match the backlinks they have EVER.
2. SERP rankings are a function of the overall domain authority too, not just the page-level link profile and metrics.
3. These sites have a better TrustRank than your domain and have been around since like forever. So, they have you beat on age and trust - another important factor.
4. They likely also have better page-level user metrics.
5. They have better and relevant content.

Moral of the story - You are trying to take on a battle-tested spaceship with a World War field artillery gun.

I feel like keywords are one of my specialties. It's the only way I rank. I don't use backlinks. The only backlinks I ever really get are the obvious social media links that I put in my social profiles.

There are 3 ways I rank my websites with just keywords:

1. Outsmart the big boys by using a different keyword they have overlooked, don't think works, or haven't thought of yet:

- Best VPN for 2020
- Best VPN for the future
- Best VPN for your computer (super basic, right? lol. but it works)
- Best VPN for mobile phones

2. Zoom in on a specific person who needs your VPN:

- Best VPN for Blackhatters
- Best VPN for Fashion Bloggers
- Best VPN for Developers
- Best VPN for people who don't know how to use a VPN

3. Make up a keyword out of thin air:

- Best VPN that still works
- Best VPN for spying on your ex
- Best VPN to find porn
- Best VPN that won't stop working
- Best VPN that's not full of viruses

Do you see? You can add all those keywords to your website. Are you using WordPress? If so, add the "All in One SEO Pack" plugin and put these keywords into the plugin. The plugin adds a keyword section on the back of each page/post you create and you paste your keywords in that section when you can't find a place for them in your article. You do not have to put all your keywords in the article. You can put them on the back of the article or behind the article where the customer cannot see them, but Google can see them. I truly believe this is how I have been able to rank all this time. Kick-ass keywords and putting them on THE BACK of the article, page, post, website.

You're playing with the big boys with this keyword. I'd say it's extremely difficult to outrank these guys unless your budget says otherwise.

You could try other traffic generation such as paid ads to try get affiliate commissions. A friend of mine took advantage of the UK porn ban when it became popular and used social media to generate affiliate commissions from people who still wanted to watch porn without verifying their ID.

Well, you won't be able compete against Forbes. They are already established. Your job is to create something NEW, and establish it. Someone else already created "The Best VPN". What other VPN ideas do you have?

You may have more links than Forbes on that one article, but Forbes has their WHOLE WEBSITE ranked. You only have a piece (an article) of your website ranked. You need your whole website ranked too if you want to compete with another website that is fully ranked. Do not just rank your articles, rank your WEBSITE. That is why I gave you the SEO plugin above. It ranks your pages and your website. The two are separate.

Yes! Fill up your entire domain with your keywords! This is how you rank the whole website. Use that plugin.

I've heard a lot of discussion about links and authority... but I haven't heard much talk of time. TIME is a huge factor in Google these days, you can't simply explode upon the scene unless you're owned by a major power.

How long has OP been running this site? How many pages per month has the site been growing? How long has OP been focusing on his current linkbuilding strategy? You can't say something has failed very quickly these days, especially in a hard niche... it may simply need perseverance and time. Too many people freak out that they aren't ranking "fast enough" and they start taking drastic and risky measures.

Well I told you. More links. I checked one of those websites, they have 3k+ referring domains and from the look of it 99% are created artificially and they invested fuckton of money in that. You cannot expect to beat them by having single page with more links. Aint gonna happen.

If your site isn't as appealing to users, or your click through rate isn't very good on the keywords you are ranking highly for, Google is going to make you work way harder to get that top position for your other keywords. And yes OP, you need to work on link diversity throughout your entire website, not just single pages or something. EVERY link to your domain is spreading link juice. That's why Forbes and such rank so highly even for random keywords.

Those 2 domains are "Exact match domains" (EMD). That means the domain name is the same thing the customer typed into Google.

If I search Google for "what is the best VPN?" and "thebestvpn.com" pops up on the first page, it is obvious just by the domain name that they have what I am looking for. Amazon (a big boy) could pop up too, but Amazon does not always answer the question correctly. Amazon will answer the question like this in the SERPs:

That doesn't tell me anything. It only gave me one VPN and it didn't say it was the best. I said I wanted THE BEST VPN.

Well shoot, "thebestvpn.com" said 3 times in their response that they have the best VPN:

1. The Best VPN Services
2. TheBestVPN.com
3. https://thebestvpn.com

How many times did Amazon say they had the best VPN: 0 times

This is how the smaller boys can beat the big boys. By flat out answering the question people type into Google without any fluff. The guy who created thebestvpn.com knew I would type those exact words into Google when I needed a VPN. So he named his business "thebestvpn.com" so I will know without a shadow of a doubt that he has what I need. I have no choice but to click into his website. He is the only one answering the question. No one else answered my question. Not even Amazon got it right. Multiply this by thousands of people searching for "best VPN" and you will be at the top of the search results too simply because the big boys aren't answering the question. In fact, they are fumbling with it.

The same with restoreprivacy.com. A customer searched Google for "how to restore privacy" and these are the SERP results:
