Ok I know the kW difficulty is too strong but I have done some strong back linking. I am on 3rd page.
I have made Best VPN as a category. Over 130 blogs fall in this category, meaning I have written over 130 blogs such as Best VPN for.......

Here's what I have done:

1. Links from above 515 unique referring domains of which 300 are do follow (as per ahrefs reqirement, there are many pages in top ten whose referring domains are way below 200)
2. Redirected a whole relevant website
3. created over 130 blogs
4. No technical issues (in fact mobile and desktop scores are above 90, there are many pages in top 10 whose scores are way below 50s)
5. CF and TF is better than most in top ten
6. Link profile strength is better than most in top 15
7. Internal Linking from 203 pages
8. Disavowed all those links which maybe hurting my page

What more needs to be done?

You are asking this based on these?

Best VPN Keyword.PNG

The weakest site by DR in the top 10 is 61.

It doesn't matter how many referring domains you have, it matters if they are from a super authority in the niche. I had a project in this niche (sold it) and the guest posts that usually go for $150 were used just for anchor diversification. The niche is super hard.

@OP: try and see if you can replicate the backlinks from your first page competition. Start sending emails to get the same links and see how much they charge. Then, ask yourself if you can afford that.

I have done this working too which you are suggesting, got links in this niche in particular. Money isn't an issue.

It's one thing to have links in that niche, it's another thing to have links from authoritive site in that niche. Also, you can get general links from newspaper sites. Those work as well. For that site, I had links from nymag.com, vice.com, gizmodo.com and others of the same caliber. Try to get them as well.

Hard to say but that is super competitive no doubt. I'm sure your competitors are working just as hard as you to maintain their ranking. Keep pushing is all you can do I guess...

To all,

Except top 3 results I have better and more authoritative links. I seriously don't understand what am I missing? If you look at theverge and forbes, they have very less referring domains plus their website is not of same niche. In fact my whole site revolves around VPN niche. Secondly there are three results such as techradar, tomsguide and itproportal who comes under the same company which is future plc and they all have exchanged links with each other. Their content structure is even same!

No way you have more referring domains than theverge or forbes. Maybe for that single article but the entire domain factors in the ranking I think... keep it going page 3 isn't that bad right now more and more links and onpage optimization (I've been kw stuffing lately and google seems to like it!)

Yes I am talking about one single page only and not the entire domain it self. So you mean to say that I must increase referring domains of my homepage too?

You're just complaining about what you are not ranking instead of doing anything about it. Whatever you are doing right now is not working and there's only so much you can do about the sites you mentioned above. SERPs are not a level playing field. Try an easier keyword.

This is what happens when you take on the big boys.

Wirecutter is the same, a couple of links in there from NY Times costs them zilch.

Yes these sites are very hard to beat. Even if the tools show not that many referring domains, every article they publish is echoed in Twitter in thousands. You can do it but I would not give up and keep building links, to all pages of your site :)

"What is my ip address" is popular keyword and has less competition according to google, you can create one service for this keyword and offer your vpn service there.

Good idea those tool websites are a great way to do it

You should have expected this when you decided to play with big boys.
You will need a lot of money and time to rank for such keywords.
