It has to be more profitable and effective than other delivery means. If, when, and where are the questions here, but it will definitely see use.
I can imagine a self-driving car in the near future that has drones flying out the top with packages and docking back later down the road after delivery.

Seems to work well in the prison environment for delivering drugs etc to inmates, so it might catch on for commercial reasons too.

That would be pretty simple to achieve, because almost all of these drones have embedded unix OS. Cracking the root password isn't tough, just check youtube. There are lots of videos explaining how to do that.
I am guessing Amazon drones will be better, but nothing is unbreakable.

Well, shooting the drone down with a rifle seems a bit easier to me. And there are far more people with that skill than hacking/cracking Unix knowledge...

That kills the drone. If you hacked it and rerouted it to your home; you got it alive... I can't imagine what will happen if the terrorists steal these drones and use them for spreading terror.

A casual meth powered lunatic with a rifle doesnt care about the drone...the stuff the drone carries is much easier to sell and has more potential buyers than a stolen drone from Amazon. Also, there are probably gigabytes of plans how to build a drone all over the internet. Why would terrorists bother to steal one and risk to get caught?

That's not something I can answer. All that I can tell you is that terrorists used planes to hit buildings. Why would they bother to steal a plane and risk getting caught? You tell me.
The madness I have seen and heard for the last 20 years makes me worried. Here's a proof of concept what people can achieve with drones.

1. Courier need a special - custom made type of drone witch is heavy duty, durable, that can also proceed in specific environment and risk.
2. Gov need to adding new law, anybody that try to touch or steal the drone, they gonna goto prison(criminal). That's why the drone gonna have camera(obviously), and some kind of technology to record and detect if the item get stolen.
After all, we're living in the future robot environmental.
Job gonna get reduce, robot, A.I, are gonna replace our job cause they can work 24hr, no sleep, and no bullshit.
While human never stop reproduce...
No wonder Elon Musk is trying hard with his mars idea, because planet earth is already over populate with human who have no jobs.

As far as I know, no terrorists that "stole" airplanes and hit the buildings got caught lol
