Calling all web devs

Hi all,

Wondering if someone can help me out. A clients website is directing to a page which shows the following when typing in http://www.clientswebsite.co.uk

This is the default index page of your website.
This file may be deleted or overwritten without any difficulty. This is produced by the file index.html in the web directory.

For questions or problems please contact support.

However, when you type in the full URL (https://www.clientswebsite.co.uk) it works fine. Any suggestions much appreciated.

sorry first url should read just www. clientswebsite .co.uk without the spaces!

I'm not sure I exactly understand what umean but if I do understand correctly then just 301 the wrong not working version to the correct one(canonical)

When you type in www. you get the error detailed above.

When you type in https://www. the site works fine.

Would a 301 be ok or is there something that needs to be resolved?

A bad redirect or no redirect at all, force a 301 on the www to go to non-www

On what is the site hosted ? Are you using CPanel ?
If so than both www and http should resolve to the same domain / folder..
If you are not using Cpanel than i suggest you to redirect the www domain to redirect to http://www.

Personally I would simply use cloudflare and have "require https". That would solve your problem.

What admin panel are you using? If it's directadmin they have a public_http and a public_https folder. There is an option in the admin panel to forward one to the other. I have not used directadmin for a long time so cant remember where exactly though i'm sorry.

You don't have it set to redirect http to https.
