PayPal Direct Debit Mandate - How does it work?

PayPal has a feature called direct debit mandate which allows you to pay directly from your bank account during purchases even if you have no funds within PayPal. I tried to make some purchases online but I can't find this option anywhere even though I enabled it.

Does anyone know how it works?

You might be right, I set it just now.

Nevertheless, when I used paypal balance as my preferred payment method, it said that it would ask me to use another payment method if I lacked sufficient fund, did I have to try to purchase something without enough funds to get this option? aka a failed transaction. I never went this far.

PayPal only allow payments with direct debit mandat only for accounts with a good reputation and litte bit aged.

Connect your debit card/bank account to the PayPal and when you order something online and your PayPal funds are insufficient, PayPal asks to take the remainder out from the debit card/bank account if its connected

What you are looking for is just infront of you.

Its called PayPal Prefered payment method it works if you don't want to pay with your balance or card just select bank if you have a backup funding source it will be deducted from your bank. Though its not recommended & the other one was "Paywithyourbank" it was introduced in 2014 and was being abused by people so paypal stopped it for that reason!

As the name says, Paypal Direct Mandate, it authorizes Paypal to debit money from your bank account.
Paypal verifies your bank account by deducting some amount and giving back in some time. If it works well then you're ready to receive your payments directly in your bank or vice versa.
