So i get the onpage seo quite well. but what does your month to month seo plan look like for oh say a service based industry? Once the onpage and backend seo issues are taken care of I start on content and backlinking month to month and optimizing those pages. What else am I missing?

1 hour a month for monitoring rankings (viewing, analysing, etc ...), 1 hour monitoring technical SEO (using SEMrush or something), 1 hour for strategising for the upcoming month and writing report(s). Then you can actually spend 7 hours for actual SEO (do whatever, for example, submission to quality listing sites/citations, keyword research + content creation, etc ...). If you charge $100 / hour then that's $1K/mo plan for you.

If you are targeting low competition keyword and done on-page SEO, you don't need to invest for SEO monthly. If you build a strong backlink, no one can beat you soon. Average monthly SEO cost is $100 to $150 initially. If it is strong, then the cost will be reduced to $30 to $50 per month. Don't do cheap and low-quality backlinks. It will reduce the site's authority.
