Seller with sale thread on BHW might be looking for users who are asking
for free trials on mostly SMM panels and other common services, Seller then
can decide if trial request is valid or just spam based on his posting history.

i was following 1 guy, private profile, hit 20 threads in minutes
all asking for freebies, every bloody post

I wholeheartedly support this. I had my profile on private before only because I received a message begging for a freebie and when I didn't respond right away, I got the "I SEE YOU'RE ACTIVE" message and truly didn't feel like being harassed about a freebie. I eventually put it back public and handled those things a little bit better.

However, I see having a private profile as a scammy tactic. I'm not going to buy from a seller if I can't see if they're an active part of their sales thread or this community.

There is a feature to Show/Hide your online status if you click on your Username it's the last.

Absolutely, but I believe OPs post refers to buyers profiles rather than sellers.

I would like to think that this is for everyone. The only members that should be able to hide their activity are moderators and above.

Edit* Removing unnecessary reference to the country to avoid political arguments.

Nothing on this forum is impossible to find even if the profile is private. In a forum open to the public, privacy options are and should be available by default.

As I said in a previous comment, I understand the seller perspective of freeloaders only ever collecting samples. It's a tough position to be in, however, a seller reserves the right to refuse service at their prerogative. A blanket rule should absolutely not apply to the entirety of userbase when the other option is much simpler.

Wholeheartedly disagree. I live in the UK, which is a huge nanny (almost police) state. I value my privacy. Though nothing on this forum is impossible to find even if the profile is private. In a forum open to the public, privacy options are and should be available by default.

Why would you like to hide your profile on a public forum?

I don't live in the UK. So, taking that into consideration, why would you need to hide your profile here then? Access it from a US VPN with US accounts for payment processing. I mean, there are many ways around whatever you're trying to hide. However, the health of the forum is important here too. Abuse of said system is what brought us into this thread and I feel, at the very minimum, it should be restricted to at least JR. VIP/mods & above.

A more casual response would be an aphorism: Just like I don't answer my calls on the speakerphone when I'm in public, or shout down the streets when I'm speaking to friends out and about. It's a preference.

However to give context, My profile till a month or so ago edit:was public, and to stop receiving bhw newsletters was the first time I modified the settings. At which point I just disabled all, initially thinking, it would only apply to unregistered users. However now that I know it applies to everyone, it doesn't bother me. I didn't till this thread wonder why anyone else would be interested in my activity, other than the point that was raised earlier in the thread about 'samples please' .

So in context, I didn't necessarily intend to hide my activity on a public forum, but I don't see why I shouldn't. I don't mind a seller refusing me. They have the right to do so just like I have the option to go to someone else.

Totally agree. Public forum, thus profiles should be open. It’s not like there is any personal info in them, so no reason to hide, other than you have something to hide. Works both ways, buyers and sellers in my opinion.

There are privacy options which allow you to control everything within your profile so I don't really understand the issue with making profiles publicly viewable.

I don't think it's a good idea to make member profiles public, but I'd recommend the change to make it all available for registered users.

lol man, I don't need to use a VPN for bhw, I don't do anything shady. Iv been here for 10 years now (10 years next month) with no bans and 2 warnings for inappropriate language. Its a setting I stumbled across, and I will reiterate I get the 'samples please' scenario. However, I also like having the settings I have now.

Oh, I wasn't saying you were trying to do anything shady with/within the forum. I just meant in terms of blackhat/account sales or something in relation to you living in police state & valuing your privacy.

It's not really a police state, I am sure there are worse places. I was making a point with an exaggerated claim, that when you start valuing your privacy more offline, that mindset automatically shifts to online activity as well. I think you got my point though.

This is rather annoying, I just had someone follow me and I can't follow them back because their profile is hidden.

Edit: I can actually follow this person by clicking on his username from within the list of my followers but I still find it annoying that he is able to follow me yet I am unable to view his profile even when I follow him back. What is the point of following someone or having someone follow you when you can't see that persons profile?

Can this be implemented in BHW 2.0 @Diamond Damien :)?

I'd be asking the same question for clarity.

Interesting idea, if part of your due diligence in buying a service from a user relates to the ability to see their profile, then I'm sure we can add a filter in.
This would mean a potential buyer could exclude services from those members that have chosen not to show their profiles. Is this what you're getting at?

When reporting we ask that a member reports a specific message or post rather than a profile. This can be achieved by using the report button, how to report a member can be found here.
