MicroStrategy Sells Voice.com Domain Name for $30 Million. Buyer is Block.one

I'd better spend $30 million on marketing. With that budget you could make any domain popular enough.

What do you guys think about domains selling for such huge price?

Agree 100%

With that kind of budget you could make a random domain instant household name.

There may be more behind this deal. Perhaps publicize a certain large amount just to get free media.

Block.one has a valuation of over $2 billion. $30 million is chump change for them.

Lol @ those who say it is possible to make any other domain as popular. No it isn't, the word voice is general and recognisable.

If they can spend 30M on a domain don't you think they have "enough" for marketing!!!

What a bad investment. Should have consulted with domain expert M4XW3LL from BHW before spending their 30 million

Do not compare yourself or any other member here with them .

Why are people so salty today? It's just a discussion in the lounge. If you don't have anything useful to add to the discussion, you can spare us and just keep your arrogance to yourself.

They are not stupid no one is fool to spend 30m for a domain name, they have more money and they have their plans we have to wait and see.

Very stupid! I could have bought EDM like JoyDivisionBand.com right? Seems like one of this songs gave me a better result.

People look for random stuff not EDM. If you wanna buy a PT Chrysler, which KW would you pick? It's a reason why big SEO are buying content from Long tail KW.

For everyone who wants to talk about how this company surely knows what they are doing, I suggest you learn your internet history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast.com#History

In 1998, AudioNet was renamed to Broadcast.com and in July 1998, the company became a public company via an initial public offering. The stock price soared 250% on its first day of trading, a record for a newly issued public stock. After the IPO, the company was worth $1 billion, Mark Cuban was worth $300 million, and Todd Wagner was worth $170 million.

On April 1, 1999, less than 9 months after the IPO, Yahoo! announced the acquisition of broadcast.com for $5.7 billion in stock
.

Yahoo shut down much of its broadcast services in 2002 and broadcast.com has since been discontinued. Yahoo's high-profile purchase of broadcast.com has since been called one of the worst internet acquisitions.

It's the stuff of legends. It's how Mark Cuban became a billionaire. It shows that some companies have no clue about the internet. Of course that was a different time, but it's still mostly out of touch people in charge of these billion dollar companies.
