Been working on a site for the last 3 months, 70+ pages, around 500 keywords ranking as of writing (still working to fix up some on-page).

Been building a bunch of links since inception + social signals etc.

My DA went from 0 to 21 in 90 days.

On the 91st day a link got indexed from 85+ DA 90 UR domain with a follow link (guest post).

My DA instantly shot up on ahrefs from 21 --> 37

Question for you 1337 peeps:

1) Is this normal?
2) Is this ahrefs metric 'gameable'

Didn't think one link would do so much...

That is a big increase for just one backlink, it’s possible there we other factors at play that just happened to boost your rank at the same time.

You already ranked 500 keywords why is DA / DR is important to you. But yeah it is possible with just 1 backlink. If you get 2K ******** blog comments your DA will jump too it is easily gameable.

would one recommend using blog comments for such a campaign

I found DA is important for ranking, I hope I can improve my DA.

Reverting back to this thread.

That one link was like magic - now ranking 1000 keywords and velocity is increasing every day.

Site is now 4 months old.

Wow my DA has been at 10 for the last few months :(

I wish.

I've got around 130 RD which i've built over the last 4 months or so, but this one powerful link mooned everything.

On-page is super important,

See one of the post started by @ATuringtest about him spamming links and watch the domain metrics skyrocket haha. As @Geasy said, its nonsense, ignore it.

It's not the best metric no, but as a barometer it works well in a world where we don't have too many other options.

I agree it's easy to manipulate, but that's if you're doing it intentionally, then you know it's spoofed, otherwise it's not a bad metric in my eyes.

The big DA boost came from a very high authority site and the new adjacent keywords google is finding is going up daily. Site has only been live for a few months too.

Barometer for what?

See what google says: https://i.imgur.com/jCyzJ3H.jpg

I wanted to find the post where JohnMu also said that Google doesn't have an "authority metric". Can't find it though.

But if you have good links, congrats :) Those are hard to get.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

So if there is no 'authority metric' - what metrics do you use to measure your SEO efforts?

DA 15 sites are rocking on Google. Never consider DA as a ranking factor. If Google favors your site for many keywords, that is called authority.

SERP are the most important aspect of it anyway so that's what matters the most. DA is golfs if you want to sell links and guest-posts yourself.

You are mixing two different metrics. DR with DA.
DR/UR can be easily manipulated, but DA can't be.
