Hey guys, I'm very new to SEO.

I'm about to buy a domain that has a link to it from a wikipedia page. It is a wikipedia page about a person (not the most relevant person but it used to be a very well known name in certain communities 10 years ago) and the link is under the persons bio information (age, birthplace, occupation, school etc. stuff that's on the right under the picture). I recon it will also have some traffic from there but can't get access to stats yet. How much do you think this will affect SEO if at all.

thanks guys!

If you sell autobiography books about the same person then it will be excellent ... if not then it probably will not have a serious impact.
Since this is a specific person and not a general category, then there is no point in investing hope in this

I had a link on Geddy Lee Wikipedia page. Use to drive +1200 visits/day to one of my blogs. But it was too personal and Rush management did request a remove. But never had SEO impact...

1 link don't affect SEO that much :) Don't rely on it solely. You need many links from relevant sites. Guest post links and other types of non-spammy links.

Yep! But authority links are losing a lot of power. This update will tear apart PBNs and reduce build linking. More and more it's all a out trending topics and ability to write/post content easy for machine interpretation.

Voice searching represent 30% by now. Rich snippets are mandatory. I know a lot of content from new/small sites, no big SEO strategy but close to perfection when we consider the quality and amount of well distributed content.

It's the way to go! I mean... as always.

it will not have a massive impat unless as said about your site is about the person, so you will need to look at the whole link profile not just one link, ideally you want relevant KW rich links

It will not create any big impact on SEO as others said. It just creates a trust level and it helps if you are selling links to others.

Funny enough I came across a site that had links from the great Elon Musk himself(WK page).
The site cant even get 100 traffic a month after years.
Tell me if wiki links have power again.

I’m telling you to save your money and spend it on content and other useful stuffs.

It was definitely an impulse buy :D. Don't really know what to do with it, you are probably right about doing better more useful stuff. Will see what happens, maybe it will have some traffic, will find out in 20-30 days when the auction ends

relevancy is more important
with wikipedia links
if ir-relevant link made your site can get bad impact to,
ditto this. if the link is not relevant, it will not give you much benefit. having your money site being about cars and having a backlink from dental surgery on wikipedia, will not give you much benefit.

take a look at this

https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/john-mueller-impact-of-social-bookmarking-on-links.1125574/
"A page with inbound links relevant for Topic A, will make that page relevant for Topic A. But if your page is about Topic Z, that link is probably not going to be useful to you in terms obtaining a ranking benefit.

A web page does not inherit authority, it only inherits links and those links only matter when they are also relevant.

So obtaining links from social media or social bookmarking sites does not confer any particular benefit because they are inherently irrelevant and any inbound links are also irrelevant.
"

try to increase your post count soon?
Wikipedia offers the smash of all smash relevance in linking pretty much today!

Also on that note... I'd forget that domain unless that person is relevant to something you're trying to rank for or if you can repurpose it.

It shows trust either way, but may not offer you what you really want out of this unless you know how to twist it to work with that page.

In all honesty you'd be better off branding the living hell out of your PBN or if this is a money site from high DA profiles using your brand name
in the url.

You'll get more of a push that way then this silly wiki link.

Wiki is a good source of traffic. I have one for one of my software projects. You can always see Wiki Page Stats at View History->PageViews to estimate Wiki Views etc.
Thank you for that. Damn, the wikipedia page I have a link for only has 900 daily visitors average :(((

It would help with trust factor but one link is not going cause a significant impact.

Wikipedia is the great source of authority 1 back links from Wikipedia can bring your website top of the search result.it will proud you no follow links nut this kind of nofollow links like diamond.
