Another Google Update on It's way

Am I being paranoid here but is SEO really slowly dying?

As Google slowly kill the latest blackhat methods that work (right now its paid guest posting).

Once this is snubbed out it leaves with outreach only right?

There is only so many sites that you could get an outreach link from and the webmasters for those sites will probably get sick of requests real fast.

What happens then? I am not as experienced or as good as SEOer as many of you guys but it looks like the writing is on the wall to me.

What do you guys think?

I'm still using blackhat hard. thousands of cloaked, auto-generated domains bringing in millions of clicks per day.

I never read google news, i never read SEO news, I try to ignore anything to do with google updates. It's all a load of nonsens.

Just do what you think is best and if it works keep milking it ;)

What royserpa is trying to say is this: Google ideally would like you to design a site and ignore them completely.

Everything we do and that we take as "normal" is trying to manipulate the SERPs in a way that we won't get penalized (white hat) BUT STILL is focused on getting ranked and is not ignoring Google as they would like you to.

I know exactly what he's trying to say but I can't explain it any better either.

To be honest, this notion is flawed. What I'm saying is you can proactively do SEO well within the limits defined by Google while still being white hat. If you consider all things SEO gray hat or black hat, then the word white hat loses its meaning.

It's strange. My traffic is down maybe 10% but I'm comparing it to last holiday week and I usually have higher than normal traffic around holidays. My conversion rate took a dump though. I don't really see how the update could effect my conversion rate and I'm hoping it's just a slow week.

I'm very well clear on what defines whitehat. As mentioned, I've been in the game for years and experienced almost every type of penalty you can receive. All I'm telling you is building whitehat cant' get you banned, which is correct, and it does sound like you agree with me on this.

BHW is a forum where everyone believes SEO is about CPA offers, surveys and get rich quick schemes. Most of my works has been from major Scandinavian enterprises, and I can guarantee you that evertything is pure whitehat over there. Just thinking about grayhat movements involves board meetings and months of discussion, so there's meaning in going down that road.

I've problably monitored about 100 of these "enterprise sites" throughout the last 3-4 years, and never have I seen one of them get penalized.

I understand that most people here has to build sites that are somewhat Blackhat, or at least grayhat. But there's a huge difference in building quality content and doing large and time consuming outreach campaigns, compared to buying "legit guestpost" links off a shady forum.

Content is king.
Why are you here if you think that BHW is a shady forum ???
I’ve never bought anything here but will surely do in the future, and I think that it’s a great place to meet people from around the world with common interest.
So I’m wondering why are you here if you think it’s a shady place?

Updates often impact conversion rate. If the mix of keywords which is bringing in your traffic changes, then your conversion can change since different keywords have different levels of buying intent.

same here. traffic down -20% and CVR as well

Exactly the same thing has happened to me.

I'm to hoping its just a coincidence.

It's a scary time for me as I depend on the money from the affected website.

See, what I've always figured, was that when they snuff out one working BH style, there has to be something else that takes its place.

Okay, noted. But, there are a lot of stickied threads on BHW that go back to 2010 or so. The basic approach of the cited thread is not obsolete, in my opinion. The mere date does not make an idea dated, the quality and later developments determine that. Identifying non search engine ways of finding targeted markets is not an outdated method, it's an alternative method to reach a niche audience.

By contrast, there are a lot of SEO methods that expose a Google weakness one month, that Google patches by the next month. That is where, and why most of the outdated ideas go down, because they are subject to Google changes. So, explore avenues not subject to Google changes, that's all I suggest.

I stand corrected! I 100% agree with you now. Great points made. It's actually got mind running with different ideas now.

Google is rolling out a Search update aimed at giving you more options to choose from in the results page. The tech giant says the update is designed to deliver more site diversity, and that means you now usually won't get more than two top results from the same website anymore. Google could still return more than two listings from the same website if its algorithms determine that they're highly relevant for a particular search, but it sounds like you can expect a more diverse results page than before overall.

Since the new feature is domain-based, it will treat subdomains and their root domains as part of a single website. Google will still only show two top results from them and will only treat them as separate websites if it finds more than a couple of highly relevant pages. As people pointed out on Twitter, it doesn't always work yet -- Google still returns a bit too many listings from a single domain at times. Danny Sullivan, Google's public Search liaison, said the company will keep working to improve it over time.

I'll believe this when one of clients KW stop returning Indeed for 4-5 spots in front page for same keyword. Granted Indeed is a top domain but that's not diversity.

Wondering if this applies to multiple searches (within a short timeframe)? Drives me nuts when I’m searching for server related fixes & I keep getting the same results.

No changes for me with the updated. I found this interesting though.

This is great news.

Anyone on this forum from the UK will know that the daily mail is a dirty rag.

It publishes pure lies and bullshit.
What troubled me though is the suggestion that its political stance may have impacted this. Unless the politics are extreme, it sets a trend that this and other views can tank a site

They bash and lie about the left wing leader of the opposition.

I doubt it's due to being political because if the left wing leader does get into power he will tax Google properly.

Currently they pay a stupidly low amount of tax.

This rag and the others are allowing Google to not pay their fair amount of taxes.

Back to the real discussion, with Google looking to diversify search results.

This is another huge blow to web2.0s (with the subdomain diversity)

+ a strong push to dynamic content based on user.

One of my 3 sites gained a tiny 8% overall traffic increase with negligible conversion increase too, compared to last 3 months, while rest two remains seemingly unaffected.
