Thanks for the replies. I agree even if not able to monetize, building up a big following can be useful for other things.

Here's an update! I got a reply from YouTube team a few hours ago saying this channel (my experiment one) got APPROVED for monetization! They welcomed me to the YouTube Partnership team. Here is the BUT. All 5 of my 6 videos posted said it was "not suitable for most advertisers" so it doesn't appear to be "monetizable" right now. I did apply for a manual review to see if they might overturn the status.

The odd thing is the 1 video that is monetized (has the green symbol) is the viral video that has 350K views. Kinda weird cuz that video is pretty much the same stuff as the other videos that got flagged as "not suitable for most advertisers". So I don't know if it was a human error an A.I. error and a manual review might get it approved or it might get the 1 video that is monetized flagged also. This is all an experiment and I am gaining some very good insights here.

It seems that if my videos are "not suitable for most advertisers" then everyone else who is doing this same niche are not getting monetized either. VERY INTERESTING. I thought maybe these youtubers were making good money but apparently maybe making nada. I also don't get what consitutes as "not suitable for most advertisers"...such a broad and generalized saying that could cover anything.

The good news is the channel is approved and I might be able to run OTHER experiments on this channel to see what cash I can make. In the meantime, I'm still trying to figure out how to get people to donate money via paypal or patreon or any other sort of service like those to get paid when Youtube won't pay you.

Very interesting results OP. Why not reach out to people in the Joint Venture and find someone with good content and edit their videos for them in the niche you have been successful in. That way there is no risk of copyright issues.

Hint: I have a Miniature Dachshund who looks very cute on video. I just don't get any views. If that's a niche you might consider, send me a PM.

Why don’t you try posting it on a related Reddit sub? Honestly, I don’t think pet videos get that many views now, unless they have some meme value or the channel got big years ago.

Because i would like to do something similar. Pick a niche and start doing quality editing (my background).

But my question/problem is, if i do this and reach 1k subs and the 4k watch hours will i be able to monetized my channel, using this system?

Thank you....seems like an interesting idea! Would Teespring reject my merch idea if they see that I am not the owner of it?
For EXAMPLE: if I wanted to make some tshirts to sell of Avengers and I just sent them my own edited Avengers tshirt designs (simply using other artists work and just changing the slogan or title etc), does teespring reject it or do they not care? Could I make my own Michael Jordan tshirts or Hello Kitty or use any logo sign as my own tshirt design?

They will probably reject that as copyrighted. But you might be able to sneak it in the design, just dont make any reference to the Avengers or Michael Jordan in the title or description when uploading to Teespring. However the design can show the copyrighted content. I havent ever used Teespring. I know this sneaking can work on Amazon Merch though so I assume its the same.

Usually my videos get approved within 2-3 days after submitting for manual review. Of course the video first has to reach 1000 views before
it will be reviewed.

So far I've had something like 6 out of 7 videos approved after submitting for manual review. It seems the automated system just flags a lot of videos as inappropriate for advertisers very easily so submitting for manual review seems to yield a very good chance it will get overturned and approved.

I've noticed this too. I don't know if they are being monetized by the youtuber because I don't think there is a way for us to see or know this. We might just be assuming they are getting monetized because they have so many subs or views but maybe most of them aren't?

I, too, noticed many niches like people who do sports highlights/reviews/mini documentaries get 6 figure to a million views. Many people who also do movie reviews using clips from movies also seem to do quite well....I don't know how they can use those clips and not get copyrighted unless they asked every owner for permission to use their clips?

In my experiments, I have also made a lot of those "sports" videos. I've noticed that some of them never get copyrighted even though I pulled clips from actual tv networks and such (with watermarks on it haha) and it never got copyrighted. I'm actually making money on one of them at the moment on my main channel and it has lots of clips from different network stations etc. But at the same time, I made a similar video in another sport and it got copyrighted and they tell you which part of the video or which scenes were identified or matched 3rd party....so I think it's really just a roll of the dice.

I will give a small hint though, there are some "sports" channels or figures who have video clips and never copyrighted any of their videos so you could use them all you want (as I have been doing with 0 copyrights from this particular athlete). I don't know why...it might be just that the athlete and his/her team/organization didn't bother to copyright any of their videos or maybe they licensed it all as creative commons? So if you just do a little digging around and experiment, you'll start to see which sports, channels/networks, athletes etc you can use videos of and get no copyright and which ones you almost always get copyrighted.

Thank you friends! I really am just relying on my own common sense and my own researching skills. Then my imagination/creativity will tell me or show me things that make me wanna try it out because you'll
never know anything until you try it. Failure is part of the key ingredients for success. Acquiring experience is invaluable and worth far more than we can notice in the present.

I really don't have much if any real technical skills or knowledge about all this technology/software merged with marketing/advertising/business acumen. That's why I feel that once the "anyone can do it" era is over, then we are really
screwed unless we start training in these fields and become real experts at the technical skills level.

My biggest obstacle right now (and I assume it would be for most people in my situation) is time. If I could, I'd love to execute all my creative plans and projects (I've got quite a few ideas in many niches) but there's no way I can carry
them all out balanced with work, work (2 jobs), volunteering, all the other responsibilities I have, to fit them all in. It takes a lot of time to gather the raw goods, edit them, and finalize production and distribution.

In the end, I personally believe that everyone's goal should be to find or discover what it is they love doing, what they have a passion for, even natural skills/talents, and characteristic/personality traits that suit you to that particular career/job/project. There's nothing better than waking up in the morning and doing what you love doing, and get paid for it. Getting paid really is just icing on the cake. If money wasn't an issue in life, you'd want to do something that you would be willing to do even if you weren't getting paid. That's how you know you really love your life/job. With A.I. on the verge of taking over most jobs, it truly is going to be humanity's goal to shift into fulfillment of your life. GDP/financial income index as a way to measure someone's life or a country is a poor and old system that should change over the coming the decades. It should be focused more on a happiness index or how satisfied/fulfilled people are about what they do as a true measure of the health and wealth of a society.

I feel that even just experimenting with ebay or youtube or other platforms to find ways to make extra income is just a small glimpse or taste of what I am really seeking for....passion and fulfillment in my life. Money comes and goes, life is short, time is limited, what are we doing in this "rat race" but just slaving away for some cheap thrills here and there and wait to head to our graves empty-handed? I think I need more than this.

By trending topics, do you mean what's popular on the YouTube trending tab or on Google (similar usually). It's weird because I've tried doing various trending topic videos but they almost never get any views no matter how well edited or how good the commentary is, and then I have to resort to promoting it myself on Reddit etc.

Not just whats popular on youtube tab.. Trending varies. It depends on the niche you like the most. Every niche trends daily. Celebrities, tech, sports, fashion, games, movies. anything. Just look on the worldwide web find trending things on any topic you like. The thing is people search for what's 'happening right now' every single day. Use that to your advantage on any niche you like. Its important to have good quality thumbnail. Ask yourself if you would click on your own video if it were someone else's. So good efforts in HQ thumbnail and short but relevant/ click worthy title can go a long way

For me, Im almost done with youtube as im quite sick of their bull SH*T.

Thanks, yes I, too was quite amazed. It really just takes people to share the videos for it to go viral. Once it spreads like a wildfire, the snowball effect just multiplies and once it hits viral status, it'll show up near the top of the searches results or show up in people's recommendation list who are watching similar type videos.

I will be more than glad to share my results AFTER my experiment has concluded. I've been permitted to apply for youtube partnership just yesterday, I'm literally
about 1 day away from 4,000 watched hours now. I have submitted approval for monetization and linked it to my main youtube account and adsense account.
We'll see if I get approved for monetization and/or how it affects my main account if it should be disapproved or even something worse. I'm taking the risk! I just have to know
what happens, haha.

BTW, even without telling you the specific niche I chose to experiment on, it applies to EVERYTHING. If you just do some simple searches and browsing around youtube, you'll start to discover certain niches or trends that are viral and hitting it big and with a little creativity, you can easily try and imitate, emulate, copy, use the same principles, etc., and reproduce similar results albeit not as good as the original creators (in most cases). The real sad part about all this is youtube/social media/monetization is in a period of infancy right now. This is a short window that is open (a decade or two) of almost anyone with even zero skills to just make money online. Soon, it won't be like this. It won't be so easy for anyone to just post whatever they want and make money. It will turn into a very lucrative and competitive industry ONLY for those with very high-end professional-level skills/talents/technical-know-how to be able to make money online. Right now, the internet and social media is still in it's infancy experimental stage.
It is the so-called "Gold Rush" of our generation. One day our grand kids will ask what we were doing during this gold rush era and why we didn't cash in and take what we could while it was free to be had. So this is me just trying to get a piece of the pie in this gold rush era. I'm still trying to learn about other methods but I'm so behind on this technology stuff it's moving so fast I can't keep up....i'm only into youtube and ebay online selling....I haven't even begun to understand how to make money on facebook ads, instagram, twitter, blogs sites, apps, you name it....it's just crazy out there. You have people making money just eating in front of a camera, people just unboxing stuff they bought, people doing nothing but studying in a cafe or reading a book and getting bank, people travelling the world and eating different foods and making bank, people playing videos games and just posting it online or live streaming video games and they make bank, the list is endless....you can do almost anything as long as there is an audience and you can make bank, there's literally an infinite amount of ideas out there all with the potential to make you money....the silliest stuff..... but how long will all this last? With A.I. around the corner, the fun will end for the masses, while the fun will only get better for the advantaged. A.I. is the game changer.

It's hard to find what's trending and even hard to find a niche on youtube. Could you please assist a little more?
