LOL, I understand where you coming from. If I am public people will view / like my memes but not follow me, when I am private people have to follow me in order to see my stuff. This is why I ask

You are watching it from the wrong side in my opinion. Make it public & keep posting badass memes, if you have quality content people will eventually follow you. In my opinion Instagram private profiles make sense only for personal profiles.

Here comes the twist people as you said people like to share with their friends so when ever they share the memes with their friends and if the frnd is not following your page there's 60% chance that he'll send a friend request i'm saying this bcos i've tried this method it works but you till the point your content is lit or legit funny your followers will tell your friends to follow your account but as soon as your quality drops you'll start losing the followers at high rate. i was at 50k and made my account private for testing purpose it went well till 60k but after that i lost more than 30k followers within 3months bcos of shadow ban and it was hard to get back them.

conclusion - Test and try what suits your account you may get best result or the worst.

depends case to case my account was private for almost 1year i gained 15k followers mAybe bcos of the viral content i posted and everyone just wanted to see it.

this is completely different scenario once your insta page starts gaining followers on daily basis you can make your insta page private.
