it depends the 3 months directories are junk and won't provide much impact but if you mine some directories like yellowpage they give you benefit plus accepts your submission immediately.

Yes, Directories are still effective and important in off page SEO. The number of directories will have the data of your website, will make more popular to your website and your content. So, you can’t skip directory submission in off page SEO.

I have sites that rank for local terms in organic with no directory links. To rank organically for location you need on-page content specific for that location (City Landing Page).

As far as traffic from them..... with the exception of Yelp, forget it. The sites I have directory links on get no referring traffic.

Unless you are looking for some weak diversification backlinks toadd to your profile or some starter backlinks for a new website, I would forget it.
