My blog post was ranked on a google search result the first page and there is a sudden drop in that. now my article is not even the 5th page. why? what has happened?

It can be many things.

The site is new, the links are crap...

Unless you tell us more, we can try throwing beans in the meantime and maybe guess it :D

Penalized? What links did you buy, and what was the anchor ratio?

Hmm, a little weird.
I'm new to blogging and SEO etc. but I am noticing my articles jumping between page 1 and 2 on google every single day, but I think Google is just trying to test different things and see which ones are most useful for the user, by measuring bounce time, titles, meta description etc.

Welcome to Google in 2019. No fucks given. Unreasonable, random and pointless.
My conspiracy theory is that the more people that get dropped in ranks (or bounced around), the more people will buy their ads for traffic instead.

Just trying is not for the live index; people are loosing business. Might be they're not 'just trying' but we should expect a full fledged core update soon.

Yes, it has always been like this. The people always try to remain the traffic or get even more traffic, so they are much more willingly to spend cash on ads etc.

Or it is just the normal evolution of Google and its "real time" ranking. I think in the future we won't have something like "settled" or "stable" rankings, but much more constant changes with different search results. So it depends where you are right now, what you searched in the past and all the other user behavior etc. to show you search results in order to higher their conversation rate and click through rate.

Op nobody can give you the answer you are looking for, unless you show your website, which is not a good idea. But my guess, you got hit by Google update.

Think 2017 was the last time those were handed out. Oh, wait, 2017 wasn't much different?
Not sure about your niche, but for mine I see magnificent changes. In 2017 I could create a quality site with great content, create some quality links and simply rank. As it should be.

How about now?

I do the same like above, but my site first sticks to page 5 or 6 for 20-90 days until it moves to the Top 10, then it stays on #1 for one week, until it gets pushed to page 2, slowly climbing up to the Top 5, but later getting sent back to page 5, until it eventually comes back to page 1.

The most ridiculous is....when I check who or what is on page 1, while my quality site is on page 5, then I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Spun content, YT videos, spammy websites etc.

It seems at this time the Google algo is completely retarded. At least in my niche. It seems so totally random.

Was thinking mainly ecom, but been involved in multiple niches and I see your point and agree.

What I was suggesting is that it's hard to remember when things started to go this route or when this AI thing starts paying off (or if it's totally retarded) and we'll see the light.
