Before BHW was XenForo, there was once an option in the panel for JR VIP & above to change their user title. Below a member's picture is the "Regular Member/JR VIP" etc title.

Though, it can be an option for everyone. I want to say that I feel like this could bring some whimsy to the forums and users could play around with their user titles.

After:

I believe this is an option in the backend by giving certain usergroups the permissions to edit custom titles. Would this be something anyone else is interested in?

I know firsthand that this option exists in XenForo as well, both as an admin option for one-off changes, and as a usergroup permission to allow certain groups to change their own titles. If there is a concern of abuse, it could be handled by admins directly, similar to how username changes are currently handed.

I can see a lot of meaningful benefits from this as well. For example, after a name change someone could set their title to 'formerly known as Blah', if they have a company that does business here they could set it to 'owner of blah.com', and so on.

That’s what I figured as well. I had a chat with one of the mods about this and he seemed to be rather fond of the idea.

As with any feature, it can be abused, but i think the good outweighs the bad here.

I can't edit any of the posts on this thread so.

Forgot to mention, there was talk about this happening in the very beginning of the move to XenForo, but this was more of a novelty than an actual bug that needed fixing in the new system. I believe to have had these conversations with @Apricot and @BassTrackerBoats but I could be mistaken, my memory is for shit considering that was 3-4 years ago.

I don't know, I think the forum could use a neat little feature.

I remember we had this feature for regular members on the old vBulletin forum. I don't think it was abused back then as far as I remember. Some members used it to put funny user titles, some of them used it as advertising space.

Ideally, a way to differentiate genuine titles from novelty titles (maybe embolden actual titles?) along with restricting users from using admin, mod, executive, and all of their variations would need to be implemented.

Exactly. I wasn’t around much for it, but I do remember finding it amusing. Just a few small kinks that would need to be implemented but I think it’s doable for JR VIPs.

I could even help out with it in some way, if needed/for fun, but it’s a concept I’d enjoy seeing implemented.

I was just reading some random BHW support thread where it said you could do this, got all excited for 5 seconds then realized I’ve never seen it on BHW so it must not be a thing.

I’d semi-support this. I’ve seen this done on other trading forums and it’s usually donation locked. For example, a non-IM trading forum I use allows a colored custom user title when you donate $50-$100 (forget exactly.) This has also turned into things like custom username images, miniranks, etc...

So I love these ideas, especially miniranks, but my concern is that people may begin to see these perks as equivalent to trust on the site. So I’d hope its not a paid perk

TLDR; please add customer username titles, but don’t donation lock it.

I'm not sure if it was before. I'm pretty sure it was for JR Vip only, not 100% on that though. It needs to be for Jr. VIP only. Even though, VIP has a lot of perks already.

I really second this request.

I might crosspost this into the Jr. VIP section. Perhaps see if a few JR Vip's can test it out? Seems like a solid idea with some support behind it.

You should, how would JR Vips test it out though? We would need admin approval

There's an option in the backend of a moderator/supermod/admin section. I think this needs a little bit more attention to go over to the JR. VIP section though. But, if @BassTrackerBoats or @Apricot were on board with perhaps letting some JR Vips test it as a new JR. VIP feature, then it could get some more attention.
