Question About Starting a Blog and Getting Traffic

Hey, I've been watching a bunch of YouTube videos from incomeschool on how to start a blog. Their videos teach that if you write at least 30 articles that should be enough to start getting decent traffic.

Is this true that you basically pick any subject outside of money making and beauty / weightless and write 30+ good articles and get traffic? They say that the traffic increases exponentially as Google trusts your site.

It seems to good to be true? IDK I'm kind of skeptical that just writing articles and waiting would make you rank and get traffic?

on whole internet if yours only one website waiting would work. But OUT of billion websites yours one.
if you wait you have to wait longer to rank.

But yea blogging is a great thing, I feel great that I started it.

If you have good articles, content, and a clean looking website you can get some decent traffic. Traffic depends on many things, writing 30 articles does not mean instant traffic, but this will help fill up website with content and still get a few visitors. 30 articles goal is a good start. Overtime the 30 articles can get views. You need to keep promoting. A link to your articles could be reposted to your website twitter, facebook, pinterest, etc. If you have 5-10 social accounts connected to your website they will help bring traffic. Eventually one of your pages will pick up traffic. You don't wait on articles. You keep finding ways to promote. SEO, backlinks, email collecting, guest blogging, etc are ideas to promote.

I started two sites around March/Aprill in 2018. One Amazon affiliate niche site and the other a hobby site monetized with just adsense.

Created about 10 articles in the first month for the hobby site and never touched it again. Everything has gone the way Income School guys have said it likely would. It reached it's full potential at around 5th month mark with around 10,000 views per month. It's gotten around 10,000 views per month ever since (no artificial backlinks, no videos, no nothing - everything just on page SEO effort...)

I'm focused on the affiliate site instead though...


Proper content has pretty much ranked on its own with time, assuming people were searching for a solution the content provided and competition didn't provide a better one.

Free videos.

But in all honesty, I didn't need even their free content. Their content just confirms that Google values the things I too would value from a website. I feel like I see a trend of Google getting better at distinguishing the actually good content from the ones that try gaming the system more than provide value...

You can write tons of content but if nobody knows they exist, you won't get traffic

You have to PROMOTE your content

How?

Twitter: niche-specific hashtags and influence leader accounts
FB Groups : niche-specific groups
FB pages: sticky posts on niche-specific pages
Pinterest

etc etc

Don't just PUBLISH and PRAY.... PUBLISH and ENGAGE

I'm having the same problem with my blog. Even created a Facebook and Instagram page to get new readers and redirect them to the site.

Yeah 30 articles sounds about right. These articles should be genuinely unique content though. Don't make the mistake I did. I started an Amazon Niche Site last year and wrote close to 20k words (~12 articles) and I get no real traffic. Write about real experiences.

I did a new site and I actually get the product before doing reviews. I interview the product owners and it's got way more traffic than the azon site. Also, target long tail keywords and use google search console to gauge how well you're ranking. You'll find that the 1st page rankers have massive articles (~5k words).

Ive been feeling the same way about Google quality content distinguishing skills as well.

About two years ago I started working doing SEO & Web Dev work for a roofing contractor. They have two owners and two sites. Almost by accident I only added content and didn on site SEO on one site, while the other site I did the full on site off site SEO treatment. Six months or so later, I noticed the site I primarily focused on on page SEO and content was seeing almost three times the traffic as the other site with mediocre content and tons of offsite backlinking and engagements.

Took on another client, a pool cleaning company. Did Zero off site SEO and only focused on quality content (like how to information and DIY references) and user the experience (super easy navigation, great load times, no on page errors etc). Within 5 or 6 months they started ranking really well consistently.

Im no Guru by any means and I am not 100% sure what Google is up to, but this is the first time Ive seen someone say what Ive been thinking about for some time.

What do you think was the biggest thing that actually changed between the two sites? I'm assuming Google is picking up on more keywords and ranking the new site better, but why over the old one that also contained alot of relevant keywords?
