Since we are at it, I wanted to ask if somebody has some particular provider to recommend or warn against.
Also, up to what point can I use it in my desktop? I have 20 accounts but I don't see much workload, I was thinking on either increasing my pc to an i7 with 32 gb of ram or having a separate mini PC.

Depends on how many actions you're performing on each account. It's one thing having 20/30/40 acc's doing F/UF+ likes and a different thing also having comments/dm's/ eg groups/posting etc

One of my siblings has a developer account for a big tech company because they work there, so I can just use his account because it has no limits 
. For you, it really depends on what you are looking for, (price, quality, runtime etc) I recommend Godaddy or Hostgator, they used to be good idk about now.

No dedicated server can compete with the power of what I recommend...
DigitalOcean have an option for a CPU-Optimized VPS
The best option is to rent a monster VPS 32 CPU and 64GB RAM for a few hours or a day.
Delete it when you're finished using it, then create a new one every time you need to.... and again delete when you finished using it and then you only pay for what you use.
An important tip (sometimes they have coupons $100 free gift for new registrants and then possible utilizing them to monstrous vps for free)

Digital Ocean is over priced for what they're offering. Vultr offers the same spec for half the price.

You do know that you can only run 500 accounts on a single PC, so why would you do that and plus no one will setup something for few hours or a day to run the accounts, disable them and resetup again.
It's automation and what you're doing is essentially manual work. Also... seriously 640$/mo to run 500 accounts, I do NOT know how is that economically sustainable.

Any VPS with unlimited bandwith and that is NEAR the proxy servers will be ok as long you know what you doing, they fit the requirements and they doesnt have downtimes frequently.
You should start with the lower package, use it until it literally start crashing then you upgrade and upgrade.
I wont even discuss but with 16-32 GB you could literally run -500 to 1k accounts without problem as long you randomize in a proper way.

I do not mean to explain every little nuance in this method (also i will not write a guide because there is enough on the net gst G it).
If you had a bit of practical knowledge, you would know there is such a thing called "full-system snapshot"...
This way you can set up a system in less than a minute and after an hour or two or three hours of use you create a new "full-system snapshot" save it to your computer or a remote backup and delete the droplets so actuality you pay less than 5$ for 5 hours of use that utilizes the server to the end.
And if you do not believe ... search for a 100$ gift coupon that is equivalent to 100 hours of use that utilizes the server to the end.
This is definitely what i call a black hat method.
