Well, it goes like this, me and two of my partners who aren't my real world friend and knows only by online presence were working on a project. After about 2-3 weeks of research, I found a domain name which is available for registration; I'm quite surprised it was available considering the fact the niche is quite competitive. Well anyways only three of us knows about the domain name, I kind of revealed it to one of them, well call me a bottler. Anyways today I went to register the domain only to see that its already been registered and guess what privacy protection is on.

Now I feel scammed, violated and disgusted at myself. I can't focus on my work, has anyone been to anything similar

edit: the domain is now available for sale at GoDaddy for $4k atm

Good for you, this will teach you to not trust every fuck that talks to you online

why didnt u register the domain right away?

Just because it was registered doesn't mean it was one of your people.. especially if it's a popular niche

well yeah probably for the best
why didnt u register the domain right away?
I tried and paypal started showing ' you cant sent payments atm' or something along those lines, so i thought maybe wait till tomorrow

and why suspect your partners for registering a domain in a competitive niche? there are tons of domain hunters out there who could have been responsible do proper investigation before blaming anyone.

well yeah, i thought about that too but one of them keeps on skipping past the question about the domain, seems kinda fishy.

maybe they didn't do it, i'm mostly disgusted at myself for not grabbing the opportunity.

lesson learned, move on continue with the project, are you 100% sure its him though, you said its super competitive if you had the idea to look at it others might have to. I think the lesson here is that all always act quick when an opportunity presents itself

I would be like "???" too if you were accusing me of nabbing a domain and I didn't know wtf you were talking about

just contact the domain seller and request more info such as skype contact, email etc and show interest then ask questions to know the truth, chances are if your already getting suspicious of your partners then you won't get anywhere with them since there is lack of trust better be safe than sory

No, I'm not 100% sure it's him for all I can say maybe the domain search tool can register the domain, well it turns out I pointed my fingers only at those two. Perhaps that's because of the state of mind I'm at cause I planned so much with this domain and could have been a great catch.

Just wanted to +1 on that it could've been one of your contacts but honestly registrars do that shit all the time and checking for domain availability in their webpages is a big no no, next time go through icann or some other trustable source if you really have to do it. Good luck =)

Never check the availability of a domain unless you are ready to buy it immediately if it is available.

This. Have seen it happen several times and on obscure domain names that would not be of interest to anyone else. If doing a check you need to buy right away or godaddy will grab it imho

You will find a new domain, don't get upset.
Silence is important for success.
