how to close a thread?

You cant close your own thread. I think its not allowed anymore.

A report just puts a message into the mod queue, which functions similarly to a mod-only forum. So instead of messaging someone who might not be online this weekend, or possibly getting your request overlooked in their inbox, the report will get your request seen by the first available mod.

Just like @Stavro said, it is the quickest way for any kind of action you need. Not only for closing a thread, but for things such as editing your post after 5minutes and so on. It's not weird atall lol.

Correct, reporting the thread is the best way. I will close this thread now, and will check the reported thread also.
