Today I got a message from google search console that a few of my websites got a manual penalty due to unnatural links. Has anyone experience lifting such a penalty? I don't just need a simple disavow file, Google wants proof that I actively tried to remove bad links. They want to see that I took action and work to remove bad links. That includes contacting other site's owners to delete those spam links etc.

This is so annoying -_-

My site got hit today also.

Have you used PBNs on your website?

Maybe we have bought from the same seller.

The main site that got hit with that penalty makes 20k€ in monthly sales currently, so I definitely need to do something. I got the penalties 2 days ago, rankings here are still fine. (Although I noticed drops on my other sites that got hit, but these sites are not really relevant).

What are my options now?

Trying to recover from the penalty by disavowing links and filing a reconsideration request? Or should I wait and see what happens to my ranking?
Another (risky) option would be to clone the site to another domain and place 301 redirects from the old domain. But.... seriously idk.

@MisterF @BassTrackerBoats @Sherb Maybe you can give your valuable opinion?

Which PBN services did you use?

I've used really a lot of services during the last 2 years, PBNs, web 2.0s, guest posts, PRs, the whole program. I've always tried to go for quality services, though it seems like that didn't work out...

"The main site that got hit with that penalty makes 20k€ in monthly sales currently"

Any form of seo where people buy links can be risky, you are basically at the mercy of Google and their algo updates and changes.

If you have a site making 20k in sales even working on 25% profit that equates to 5k profit per month.

I look at seo the same as I look at hosting, additional content etc as an additional cost. So if you are spending 1k a month of links, hosting, wp themes/plugins and content, you're still 4k in front.

You can either wait out to see what ranking changes come about ( which would be my route ) or disavow which isn't always the best option.

When you say wait to see what ranking changes come about. Does that mean your ranking can bounce back without making any changes?

I am totally new to this so i am a little clueless on the subject.

Some people have had success, however I personally wouldn't even bother lifting the penalty because I find it nearly impossible to succeed.

Wondering what your link ratio / link profile was like when you got your penalty? Hundreds, Thousands of PBN backlinks?

I was reading on BHW, risk what you are willing to lose (15% of your links are blackHat, be willing to lose 15%), wondering if that is actually true.

I also got a manual penalty due to unnatural backlinks.. One PBN seller here told me that all clients get hit..

Is that bc you had the PBN links to your money site? Or was that via a tiered linking?

Your competitors are rough, wanna kick you outta the galaxy bro.. especially the dudes on the front page of your main keyword

A seller told you that eventually everyone that buys links from him gets hit?
Because some pbn are actually nothing more then a link farm.

It's funny how some people want to play with Google with 8-10 years old technique.

PBN = private
Whatever you're buying from sales threads PBNs are actually PUBLIC blog network, nothing more then a link farm.

Not to mention their shitty design,no traffic at all, just old backlinks from the ex expired domain.

You don't need to know seo but just to be rational.

My 2 cents, correct me if I am wrong.

Nothing good will happen if you just leave it as is.
Disavow some links (even if you bought them) and respond that you did this and that.
I would not disavow all the links though, just a part of them.

Well yes, I was more shocked that a seller would tell him that. Like "yes buy my #1 suppa' awesome bestest caturday ranking forever, never drop PBN posts" except eventually these sites will piss all over your site...
