To be honest I think it is a smart move from their part.
Sure I am upset that I will loose access to their data easily and will have to pay more... fucke em.
But, leaving the rant aside I think it is a good move for their business and for their clients.
When you have a service like they do, where no one else comes even close, their data is pure gold.
I saw a documentary of people looking for gold in Australia with those metal detectors. Shit. All that heat, dangers and risk of finding jack shit..
But plugin ahrefs and selecting a bunch of pages from where you can drive traffic can be better than gold.
Getting back to ahrefs gold. Top companies and marketers use it for a reason. Any of those will be interested to protect their assets from competition, even if it's the little guy that can't pay the subscription. But that is the point to some degree IMO.
After price increase and stopping to provide free data, I am sure their income and value will increase.
But, I guess only time will tell us for sure.
