For the majority of people running real, well-trafficked websites, managing their own VPS is 1. risky and 2. not feasible. Using a managed WP host like WPX or Kinsta is what's actually worth 'going the extra mile'.

Why is running your own vps/server not feasible with traffic?

If you don't configure firewalls and take other steps yes it's going to be risky. Taking control of your own site and learning how to manage your own hosting (even if you do it with baby steps and find a company that offers hand holding) then it's going to be for the best. Having a "managed" solution is only going to take you so far before hopefully you outgrow the service they offer.

The only reason Bluehost is relevant in people's eyes as a hosting company is their exorbitant affiliate commissions. This leads all the gurus to "suggest" and "recommend" Bluehost, but likely not using it at all themselves.

Because most actual entrepreneurs and business owners have better things to do with their time than 'learn how to manage their own hosting'. That's like saying you will never have a successful app unless you learn how to code it yourself.

Most "entrepreneurs and business owners" will have someone manage a site on a dedicated server or be paying for a service at an enterprise level.

You've taken your original point and added something totally different than explaining your original post - not trying to be funny it's a Friday night after all. I was simply asking why it's not feasible with traffic, your words not mine.

Well, you've brought in someone to build that app, and then assume you would bring someone in to manage your books. So why wouldn't you bring someone in to manage your hosting? I'm not disputing ANY of that.

Traffic isn't the main reason. The VPS is. Yes - if you are at the point to afford a dedicated server AND a server manager salary than it is feasible. For the VAST MAJORITY of online business owners and entrepreneurs the 'sweet spot' is a managed host. Yes, it's entirely possible to run a site on a VPS. Does it make sense for most people? No.

I bought a $49 pro wp plan to see what it offered last week. Because I had a previous closed account with them, while they took 24 months of fees from my card I couldn't get into the account, and no invoice was sent.
15 mins of online chat later I had a ticket that I l'd get an invoice in 48 hours and they'd make it work.
It took more than 48 hours to make my login work. I'm sure I could have deleted it and opened a new account on a different domain in 5 mins.
They didn't tell me the problem was fixed
They didn't offer to refund even the days locked.

Wtf happens when there is a real technical problem. And this is the pro+++ gold plated service.
