Ahrefs is a pretty solid choice and will most likely be the top recommendation.

The all have their strengths and weaknesses. It would be nice to someone would create a tool that crawls as well as Ahrefs but only counts the links that are indexed in Google.

why don't you use small seo tools websites its free i believe ahref is good but as long as your needs are full filled you can use free versions.

Ahrefs is great. you can always sub for one month at a time and just use it whenever needed. I found myself using it more and more and the $100 bucks or so always pays for itself.

Your suggestion is good, but Ahrefs is good. Ahrefs helps you learn why your competitors rank so high and what you need to do to outrank them.
