About POD profit margins

How much do you sell your POD T-shirts for? Do you charge for shipping?

For example, if i had to use Printful, the cheapest tee would cost me 9$ ($11,50 with a custom neck label), and shipping would be 5$. With free shipping it'd be $16,50, plus ad spend it would literally leave almost nothing as profit with a retail of $25 (which i think is the standard).
Printify has cheaper solutions, but it's way worse at worldwide shipping (not EU centers like printful) and they have the inside label option only for $13 t-shirts (and it costs $2,50).
I think i have a good business idea based on POD but these insanely low profit margins are scaring me quite a bit.
Only solution i could think of is a retail of $27 and charging for shipping on orders below $50. Using printful as a supplier with a custom neck label, leaving a $15.50 margin before ad spend. Which is still low imho

Defining the price of a t-shirt is always very difficult due to a very strong competition in the field.

The goal here is to, as you mentioned, try to increase the price of the customer's basket. The strategy of free shipping from a certain amount is therefore a good solution.

In my opinion, we should not set a price over $ 25, that would make a lot of customers run away. Beyond this price, we go into high-end products. Printful make good t-shirts, but we can not say that it's top-of-the-range

still, i couldn't find any service that provides 2-7 days shipping BOTH in the US and Europe. Printify, Gooten etc all have warehouses/suppliers in one country or another. The only one fullfilling based on the customer's location is Printful, and that's a must for me. Printify has 10-30 (i repeat, thirty) days shipping time to Europe, which is absolutely awful.
I am currently building my website and getting my logo done but i think i will most likely go with Printful's $9 t shirts, (11$ after taxes) and charge $26.99 for it + shipping (5$) hoping to get a 7-10$ cost per purchase. Will definetely offer free shipping on $50+ orders (with each additional item's shipping costing me 1$)
