When I am doing competitor research, I am looking at some of the backlinks, but i dont think that those are all of them? is there a way to get a better idea of what sites are backlink?

What tools are you using? You can use a combination of backlink analyzing tools and multiple Google queries.

Can you please elaborate. Also interested to know. Thanks.

Did you use online tools to check backlinks?

If not, So you should use online free and paid backlinks checker tools.

Hi,

You can check your backlinks using many tools. but getting the backlinks from search console and Ahref is good.

You can get little more accurate backlinks data

For Your backlink check you can use search console and for competitors ahref is best

Hi you can use Ahref tools find competitors back links how to get a competitors back-links. Find some dead-link on competitors sites and write a massages about dead-links replacement its 100% replace your links because dead-links its not a good for a website

You can use opensite explorer. Most bot blockers dont use the ips of OSE

the only DB I know that does not respect htaccess/robots.txt is LRT.

Yes. I am using ahrefs and semrush. Thanks for the recommendation guys - i will check out those tools mentioned.
It seems like a lot of it is searching some web2.0 sites and seeing if any end up back at the target competitor.

That's not what the OP is talking about?

Each scenario is different, but I will give you an example. Let us consider the fictitious site qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com. Keep in mind, you are trying to determine DA (domain authority) rather than PA (page authority).
Note: I am not using a realistic site because it may belong to one of you :)

I am not sure which backlink analyzing tools I can mention here, but no surprises there. A couple of the big 3-4 tools are enough to get a headstart. Just one will do as well, if you cannot afford multiple tools.
Run them and export the backlinks to an excel sheet. Consolidate them. Remove duplicates.

This is your first set of results.

You probably know about the "qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com -site:qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com" search term.
This will give you the places other than BHW where the site is mentioned.

So, what you do is, combine that with file types:
"qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com" -site:qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com filetype: pdf
"qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com" -site:qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com filetype:txt
"qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com" -site:qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com filetype:docx

Here is another:
"intext:qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com" -site:qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com

Search and export all these results (many tools are available to do this, many are mentioned on this forum). Consolidate them, remove duplicates.

This is your second set of results.

From the second set of results, remove the results you found from the first set.
These are precious - your paid backlink tools could not find these for you.

  1. Analyze them.
  2. Mark the ones you can replicate.
  3. ???
  4. Profit!

Lol I cannot edit the post anymore - "places other than BHW" - should read "places other than qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com" (I originally used blackhatworld.com as an example and then changed it to qpwoeialskdhxbxbxb.com).
