my tips for u is to use rdp on the tor browser and to change ur mac adresse , and use the same proxy in ur pc to the rdp . with this methode u'll be highly safe

I read this all the time on r/TOR and I usually prompt them toward the design document that clearly states that TOR isn't that anonymous. If someone could post the link to the PDF that would be great. Also, TOR protocol has many vulnerabilities and the most known one is the end nodes. The way TOR works is that your IP basically hops between ~3 different nodes so theoretically the end node is well, the end of the hops so anyone at that end (This is why they're called 'end nodes'), can intercept traffic.

Also, VPN isn't anonymous either since I believe VPNs have your geolocation in the packets or whatever. I should also mention that bottlenecking is something you want to avoid.

I have found that in this day and age where we have no right to privacy, society is the best encryption (totally stolen from Mr. Robot).

That said, Tor isn't designed against an opponent that has an omnipotent view of the network - we call this the attack surface, i.e. the capabilities of those you're defending against. In other words, Tor is a tool designed to solve (and solves) specific scenarios. If your use falls into those, great. If not, well, it's not enough.

I have always thought that using a vps or not is a matter of whom you trust the most to not keep a log, your ISP or your VPS provider, the real weakness of tor is one of them both, because they have the ability to effectively read and log all your traffic, I personally dont trust any vps provider, if you want to be a little more safe get a prepaid sim, use an old 4g phone, get to a random place to avoid triangulation and browse.

Depends on what you are referring to.

TOR provides an "anonymous" IP. But the data sent to the exit point is completely decrypted. This creates a huge vulnerability for all the user that are using the network.

It has alot to do with not knowing the limitations of TOR as an application. Anonymity and encrypted data isn't the same thing. The user-error is always there.

I don't use it personally but one of the most secured setup that I know is running Whonix VM (on a Linux host OS) and using a 4G connection with a prepaid SIM

It's pretty hard to configure afaik and Tails works good and is easy.

Also TOR is ANONYMOUS and not SECURED. You can be safe by using common sense and a couple of rules (Don't open files unless you're on a VM, st the TOR button security settings to the highest, make sure you have HTTPS Everywhere and Javascript disabled,...)

Using a VPS/VPN is just adding an uncessary layer which can be easily be breached.

I think Tails OS is the best way to use Tor.

Back in the Snowden leak, the NSA was able to look into VPNs without problems, whereas linux with TOR was "catastrophic" for them.
