What would be the best way to move http://www to https://...?

Hi guys,

My client has a web property under http://WWW.domain.com that has been running for a few years now, and it's registered in Google Search Console already. We've created a new site with completely different site structure under httpS://domain.com.

What would be the best way to move the website from the first domain to the second one?

So far, I've created web properties for both domain on Google Search Console, submitted sitemap to both, and done all the 301 redirects from the old pages (remember different structure) to the new pages. But the issue is search results are still showing old results.

What would be the best way forward?

I've edited htaccess file and SSL is all set already, but the isssue is search results are showing both old pages (http://www) and new pages (https. How do I get rid of the old pages on search results? Thanks

So just to confirm, for Google Search Console, I've added both httpS:// and http://WWW, and don't need to do anything else? Should i remove the https://WWW version? Thx

These are 2 different questions. You can't magically combine SSL and sub-domains.

It takes a bit of time for google to get over with the hang over of old domains, hang tight

I agree that maybe you just need to wait. If you enter the http address in your browser, does it redirect correctly to the https version (both home page and internal panes)?

If it does redirect correctly to the https version, then you are fine, and you just need for google to index all https and drop the http links. You can force re-indexing of the entire site from inside google search console to speed up the process.

Search console just started allowing you to register the domain rather than the really silly http /Https and www Vs @.

We migrated aa site similarly a couple of years back and it took about 9 months to clear. If you have strong back links then those links take longest from our experience.

9 month for http to https reindixing . ? Omg that's long. How many links u had ?

That site had about 40k links, and a similar number of pages.

Do you have rel canonical defined on the pages?

This can be done by simply using SSL. Update the Site Address. Change Links in Your Content and Templates. Implement 301 Redirects in .htaccess. Test and Go Live. Update Your Site Environment.
