I recently bought a godaddy domain with siteground hosting. I'm afraid this website will be harder to rank because there are established websites with the same domain name. My niche is in news mainly targeted towards my country singapore . The other websites with similar domain names are also news websites but target another country. So are my fears of ranking difficulty due to similar domain name correct? Pls advise me

I would be more worried about DMCA / copyright
Mine ends with .sg theirs with. Co.ke
Besides copyright will it be harder to rank in google since I'm ranking for other things (diff country)

You can try asking GD to change it for you if it's only a typo from what you actually wanted and if it hasn't been too long since you registered.

But will it affect the difficulty to rank my articles etc ? I mean all the articles of mine will be diff from this other website with similar domain name since I'm targeting news for country X and for them country Y.

I'd imagine it's highly unlikely to affect rankings in any way as they are considered two separate domains. The problem with SEO is you can only ever expect a probable answer. Nobody knows for sure exactly what affects rankings in specific manner. Anybody who has tests that prove how things affect rankings are too busy exploiting any loopholes.
