Hey there,

I'm an artist (A bad one) but I have a few songs that I can potentially release to music streaming services. I don't see a lot of people talking about it here but would it be possible to sign up for spotify & other streaming services trial accounts and just let it play 24/7 in a VPS to make money?

I'd appreciate if anyone has any insight on this.

i'm sure all streaming services has some kind of systems that check who listen to tracks, and if it's just one ip / user that listen over and over you will probably get banned.

Look man, just think rational for a second. Are you looking to make money for living or you're just looking for few bucks?

Because, like you said you're a bad artist. Why would anyone listen to your sh*t then? If you want to make money from it, learn how to make music, sing, play or whatever you do as a bad artist and then offer what you've got.

You're right although all you gotta do is put some very popular tracks in a playlist with my music and it'll show up to other people as recommended. I mean I just find it weird that no one talks about here.

I don't care about being an artist. This could potentially be a way to get a good passive income.

Most of the money made in music is by expoiting the artist. Sorry to say. Most artist are not business minded, so the business savvy exploit them. The ones who so called made it get exploited by pimping them as products until they dry up. The ones who haven't made it get sold worthless tools, services, etc... plus they are not willing to spend on real marketing. Most marketing for an artist should be a carefully crafted mix of brand and product marketing. The artist is both along with the music. You have to really put yourself out there as a personality these days too.

The mentality of most artist is to post (spam) music on the dozens of platforms and the masses will buy it.

Spend your time making money off of the ones who are trying to make it. Offer them what they want and don't deviate.

Trust me it works. Look at WorldStar they charge artists $900 to post music videos on their blog and unknown artist get an average.of 2-4k views and a ton of negative comments trashing them and their music.

You can get that many views per day running Facebook ads to a music video and you can target it to those who like that music style. All for a few bucks a day!

Have you listened to music these days?
It seems that quality doesn't really matter...

you can try to buy some soundcloud followers and plays and start there

Idk, I guess I have different way of looking on that and thinking about it. I like to think long term and I'm really not into finding the quickest way to make few bucks. I mean you're all going to figure that our sooner or later. You think you can live your whole life by doing that?

It's fun now while you're a teen (maybe you're older idk) to make some quick scheme to make few bucks but it's useless if you think long term. Now you think $50, $100 or even $500 that you make online is WOW, amazing. But it's actually nothing. You did nothing. Trends these days are weird, you might call me an old f*ck but this world is going nowhere.

Just look at the whole situation on these forums. It's just bunch of youngsters trying to make few bucks online cause they saw other youngsters doing some videos and posting them on youtube/instagram showing how much money they have. And now, all of them want to do the same. But nobody can see the background, all you see is the video, where person is smiling, showing of money, watches, cars, houses.

So to sum things up, OP said he's not an artist and he doesn't give a single f about music. Look man, there are 2 possible outcomes. First one (the higher possibility) is that you're going to do that method, it won't work after 48 hours (because you expect to make money over night, saw it on youtube/forum) and you're going to quit. Second outcome is that your method is going to work and you're going to make let's say $500. But this won't happen in 2 days, not even 2 weeks. It might work, I'm not saying it won't. But just think about it, you think you're the first one doing this? There's thousands of other people doing the same thing as you do. You can't live like that. It will get you few bucks and that's it, it will stop working. For me, it's useless work, done for few bucks. In return you just get those few bucks, you haven't learn anything from it, you haven't meet someone who's valuable, you haven't done anything except making few bucks with some method you found online.

I mean there's no point of writing this, it won't change the way you think. I'd just like to see OP after few weeks, come back to this post and leave a review of what you done and was it successful. I wish you all the luck and hope I'm wrong.

How do you make money with an attitude like that?
When I see an opportunity I jump at it. In this case before even considering doing it I researched and fell upon quite a few articles of people making millions off spotify by doing similar schemes.

You don't know nothing about the music industry and how streaming services work. I'm trying to find out as much information as I can but there's not one single valuable information out of the full paragraph that you wrote.

For your information it takes 3 months to even get a paycheck which is why I would imagine most people wouldn't want to take the risk.
Letting my music play on a VPS 24/7 would be the most basic way to run the scheme but if streaming services have systems to detect that than you can be sure I'll put my mind to it and go undetected. You just gotta think smart.
