Let’s discuss ways to revive engagement

So over the last year Instagram has been destroying engagement left and right for both personal and business accounts. I went from about 10% a few years ago to a low of 1.5% at the beginning of the year. We can never go back but I think that there are some ways that engagement can be revived and I want everyone’s input. Here are some of my ways:

1. Post quality content everyday
This one is a given, but I used to post every few days, now I post everyday and I make sure the reach to engagement ratio is above 15%.

2. Follow/Unfollow the unengagers
Now I know that F/UF can help an account grow but I have a theory that when you unfollow an account Instagram will punish you and stop showing your content to that specific account. My solution is to only unfollow accounts that don’t like, dm, or comment on your pictures. This way you won’t be breaking any VALUABLE relationships. Some people might be worried that they would follow too much accounts but unless you get more than 7500 likes and comments per picture this shouldn’t be a problem.

This method has helped me increase my engagement from 1.5% back to 2.4% in a few weeks.

3. Block inactive accounts
This method might work if and only if Instagram considers your follower to engagement ratio. I believe that the reach to engagement ratio is more important. However if it isn’t and IG considers how many followers you have vs how much engagement you get, this might help you out by reducing your total following and increase your engagement rate. Otherwise it is only helpful if you have a lot of dead followers. A way it could hurt you is if IG chooses reach based on follower count, so let’s say it is 15% like it is for me, than maybe IG would decrease your reach if you follower count went down.

4. Block ghost followers
Now this one is complicated. On one hand IG is showing your content to them, they just choose not to engage. Removing them might increase your engagement rate because IG would show your content to your biggest engagers making your content seem better and then showing it to more people. However these people might still consume your content and be potential customers, it begs the question whether you really want to get rid of them or not. I’ve never tried it so I don’t know if it helps get a better engagement rate.

5. Promote your posts to your own followers
This method is also an idea I’ve had. If you promote your best content to your followers, maybe they would like it and then when you post new content IG would show it to them because they’ve recently engaged with you. This could help with organic reach and engagement for followers that don’t see your content anymore. I’ve never tried it though.

6. Like your followers content to encourage them to like back

Thanks for sharing OP, these are good ways to actually engage and get rewarded in return by IG. The algorithm rewards people that interact with others and don't just post and leave.

Other good ways that worked also for me:

1. Post at the best time based on your followers

You didn't mention it because it's pretty common sense but still one of the most important things

2. Warm up before posting

10-15 minutes before posting, like your followers latests posts, other pages in your niche posts, some hashtag posts. As you engage, IG will reward you and show your post to people you just engaged with.

3. Reply to DMs and comments

After you post, if you reply to your comments and potential DM's you are also interacting with your audience. They put some effort to engage with you so if you engage with them, they might like your future content and also IG will show you higher in their feed.

4. Comment on bigger pages than yours in the same niche

Some big pages don't reply to comment and don't engage, if your page is quite big, your comments can be shown first, so people will see it and might check you out

5. Stories

I've used stories on some accounts, using polls, making quizzes, make people interact and it boost my engagement and followers count. You can also use hashtags in stories and locations so people can find you.

These are some great examples. Yes posting on time is very important too I think IG changed their algo to show more recent posts.

I like the idea of commenting on big pages too. I think it’s in the same vein as the $1.80 method which gives good results in the long term.

I should try doing more stories too I’m sure there’s a correlation between both of them!

Instagram is pushing really hard stories & IGTV

My recommendation is:

1. Post 1 - 5 stories a day
   
   
2. In stories use hashtags (side tip: you can drag them out of the screen and they will still work)
   
   
3. Use Poll / Question etc...
   
   
4. Use gif (arrows are best) pointing to your profile picture. (you can use CTA as follow / check out more etc..)
   
   
5. Use GEO (loaction)

The more people engage with your posts, stories, IGTV the more you will show up in top of their feed.


About the IGTV, we all know it is dead.
But instagram wont see the truth, so they push one IGTV post on Explore page.
You can use this to your advantage.

Just go through this forum & bunch of YouTube videos, there is no need of buy any courses.

Yeah story views can lead to post engagment I’ve noticed it. I’ve also set up my bot to like my story viewers posts to encourage them to visit my profile after looking at my stories.

I just want to say after using these tips and tricks, I’ve managed to revive my engagement from 1.5% to 3.7%!! For over a year I thought my account was dead but turns out it was just my growth methods that were detrimental.

hey! thanks for the tips and tricks. How long did it take you to grow your engagement from 1.5 to 3.7%? Also this is a noob question but when you say engagement % do you mean exclusively # of likes/followers or # of likes and comments/followers or views/followers for videos?

Also has anyone tried promoting their posts to there followers and is there a way to see your best times to post without turning to a business page?
