Cost of Uber like App

I don't know if this is the right place to post it but I have a question.

I need an Uber-like app in my country for individual car owners. I posted a job on upwork and got lots of offers ranging $7.5k - $20k

They all claim they could handle this job since they developed lots of Uber-like apps.

But some of my developer friends told me that It is not possible to make an Uber like app with this price.

I am confused about what people say.

What would be the cost of an Uber like app? How much should I pay for developers?

Here's an idea.
Instead of asking the price for a "uber like" app, just give the basic info, explain the objective/s of the app, sit down with the project manager / programmer and talk it out.
Do not instil those type of expectations. If you dont need to delve into the expectation market, dont.

There is a big difference between the uber app and "taxi app" you find online. I read that uber used over 100 ios engineers to rewrite their ios app using swift. All of them are working on one ios app. :O let that sink in.

By basic info i meant everything that the app needs to be functional, programmers are usually creative people that will work harder/better if left to their own devices.

Don`t worry I pay 1k for a script which was already made online for 200 USD, we all make mistakes, but before you do something remember in most of the cases, it`s already done because it`s 2019.

You will never do an app like Uber 100% identical functions and UX as them because of the budget, but you can use alternatives.

In my home city Uber it`s not available but still Taxi companies use an alternative app as you can find on codecanyon. Can`t be like Uber but can be at least 60-70% same and it`s doing the job.

if you are starting a company or a business based on apps/websites,
it is important you have some one looking over technical aspects. (CTO)

Developing is not a one-time thing. It is a process.
If you decide to hire developers whenever you need, that alone can kill your business.

This is why almost all the startup accelerators look for "technical founder" in a team.

I would suggest you to buy an existing app (posts above), pay someone to add features if needed. Reskin it to your own brand.

Instead of paying 10k for one app, pay $100 for the existing app and use the few thousand dollar for advertising your app/brand.

One thing is very important to understand: You can have the greatest and most useful app of all time, but if no one knows about it, its worth nothing. Advertising/marketing is much more important than the actual functionality of the app in my opinion. Just look at apps like twitter, instagram etc. super easy to use, not really that much of functions, but these guys did marketing very well, which got them millions of user. Same goes for apps like Tinder. There have been so many dating websites and apps in the past, but Tinder understood how to make great marketing and it paid off.

You are right. I need a guy for both creating this app and monthly upgrading and maintenance of the application.

I'm also currently working on a platform similar to quora. I basically bought the clone script and hired a developer to add or remove certain features. It's not wise trying to create something from scratch. I've been there at least 3 times and the project never goes past the development stage.
When hiring a developer, he'll ask you to pay per hour but make sure you insist on paying a fixed price for the job. be extra clear about the project details and **never** ask the developer to join into your team as a partner

Also. If there's some designing work included, ask him to send you some prototype sketches so that you could approve first.
