Is It Possible to Get Penalized W/ Web 2.0 links?

several of my post are tanking out of top 100. I havent touched any of them for months, and the only links they have pointing to them are web2.0s.

one post only has 2 web2 pointing to it. went from mid 20's to out of top 100.

no, i try to never use exact match. always generic or naked with web2's

Yes, it is possible. Everything which seems unnatural or is against their ToS can get you tanked. Try to send some other kinda links to your URL. Social bookmarks, Profile links, Blog comments, Forum links etc. Link diversification is important. Also check out Google Webmaster Tools if you received any message.

It's hard to know when a Google penalty is coming until it happens. If you're extra paranoid, you can also try using free proxies like TunnelBear when using your web 2.0 pages.

It doesn't matter if it's web 2.0, pbn, guest post or any other types links. If it is low quality link then it is low quality link.

If you haven't done anything in a while, it is more likely to be that Google doesn't value the links to your site as much any more.

That could be for any number of reasons, e.g. Google might have re-evaluated whether it thinks they are relevant to your site, or links to the 2.0s might have dropped.

All Web 2.0 services are not spam..It depends on how you create the Web 2.0 and How you maintain that web 2.0?

You should create the web 2.0 sites with different account details and post very high quality articles.
Create social media pages for your site and give social buttons on web 2.0 sites.
Make your web 2.0 creation look like a real site.

Can you get penalized - yes. Heres some questions to ask yourself:

1. Are using unnatural anchor text?
2. Are you not maintaining the 2.0s after creating them?
3. Is that the only links pointing to your page?

If you answered yes then you're setting yourself up for disappointment...

Did you lose rankings in a day or did the posts tank slowly over a period of time? If it took time to go down then it just means that Google doesn't think your site can offer any updated information since you haven't touched anything for months OR maybe somebody did neg SEO?

Never even considered that an option to look out for. I wonder how many people are monitoring their link's backlink profile...

@The Curator , happened to me at least twice. Successful websites got blasted and if you don't realize soon enough, its hard to get back to where you have been before. I just thought google gave me a penalty for something I did and didn't look into it for years because im running several websites and well... im lazy as fuck sometimes.

After using the disawow tool years later, rankings slightly increased but i guess you have to work hard after a penalty so checking your own backlink profile from time to time isn't a bad thing to do

The company I work got attack with 20k spam links from Korean websites with 100% matching anchors - Nothing happened. I think that Google in the year 2019 are able to identify spam links and just simply ignore them.
