Hi.

Talking bout "footprints" as many people bother thinking bout them.

Let's say you were hunting for some expired domains. You found some decent ones. Let it be something around 5-10.

Now. You have two options:
1) Buy all of them;
2) Buy all of them but not at once... like buy one today... one in a month.. etc

The second option is hardly doable and really unwanted since most of domains can just get sold.
But isn't having a PBN built out of domains registered in the same day/week a big footprint? Yes, you can and must diversify your link profile so that it won't be that clear... but anyway. What are your thoughts on this? I'm sure lot of people built PBNs with a lot of domains coming from the same day or week and had no troubles with that. Though, it sounds like the super silly footprint, heh.

I only buy domains from the auctions. The "dropped" expired domains don't work that well for me. At least $200 for a good site imho. Doing it that way you won't get footprints either if the registrar offers private registration.

Can you show me the stats from Majestic/Ahrefs for some of the auctioned domains that you got and that are better than expired?

No I don't use those paid tools but there are some really great domains getting sold at the auctions, I just saw rosettagenomics . com got sold for ~$600 on GoDaddy. Just look at the backlink profile of that domain, Nasdaq, Businesswire, all legit real links.

Man... 600$?
The domain itself is not bad. But I got like 5 expired ones scraped yesterday which are ~ maybe a little bit less cool, but almost the same, having them bought for 3 to 10$ (according to the TLD, but these were my local country ones) but anyway... Imagine how much power I could get having ~ 100 domains with similar metrics of this one (and also backlinks from different biggest authority sites), instead of having bought one for 600$ :D not for me

Even if those domains would have only 1-2 good backlinks instead of like 10-15 of a "good" domain for 600$, I would buy a lot of cheap yet good ones, in most cases.

Anyway the question is about the footprint worries. I think I don't follow how the auctioned domain info works. The only thing I bother in this thread is that one can see when the domain was bought/registered/re-registered.

If it is a footprint and if Google really checks the proximity of the registration dates, then registering the domains days or weeks apart would not make much difference now, would it? You would have to register the domains months apart at the very least and that won't happen. So by all means, register them whenever you want. If it's a footprint, you are screwed either way.

Your domains are country specific. That makes a world of difference. Plus, if you can't check the history properly, they might be penalized or toxic.

And in the long run, you will find out that smaller amount of more expensive domains (if you have a budget for that) is a way to go. Less hassle managing it, money saved on content, hosting and registration. Plus, not like you have to buy domains for $600.

That's what I was talking about, you have to register them really long periods apart if you are worried bout footprints.

As for the domains, I think that's a quite arguable question, depending on the site you are working on, your ways to manage hosting and pay for it, etc. Anyway, each thing has its place. And yeah, $600 could turn in something around $100-150 which would be another talk. Also, not always you need tons of domains to rank, sometimes 3-5 is enough if no less. But the bigger competition, the more serious niche, the more investments to be made (clever-wise), that's totally understandable.

Thanks for your insight.
