Is AutoBlogging still a thing?

I have an old website with a mediocre domain just sitting there ranking in the top 1-2 pages on random keywords and the only article it has is one about how Drake the rapper is gay.
I was thinking about using a plugin like this one: https://codecanyon.net/item/wordpress-automatic-plugin/1904470 and using BuzzSumo RSS feed to get posts then use Facebook ads to get traffic like this journey: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/journey-extreme-method-adsense-2000-day.1046059/

Before I pay for BuzzSumo & Ads, will this work? Or is auto blogging dead/?

I didn't think of choosing a niche, I mostly thought just post trending articles in the past hour and then use FB ads to get engagement, but your idea sounds better.
Can you share some earnings?

Auto blogs are still being used but not really popping out of the ground like a few years ago.

organic only.
I don't use paid traffic.

One of my auto-blog used to get 10000 users daily, but now it got hit by google, now it's getting 300-500 daily users.
