Has anyone tried a carnivore diet?

I just started a PALEO diet, it's called the caveman diet. Basically you only eat what a caveman would be able to eat.... Lots of meat, veg, fruit, nuts, eggs, some oils etc.

Cutting out all processed foods, grains, sugars etc. Lots of red and fatty meat.

I'm 4 days in and already swear I feel more alert and awake in general. Hoping for gut and mental improvements.

Have a read about it. There is a relatively small list of things you are allowed to eat so it makes shopping very easy.

So basically symptoms of placebo.

Man, the amount of science and positive reviews from other people should speak for itself, open your mind and your horizons a bit dude...

Let me guess you eat processed and junk food everyday, but there's nothing wrong with that right?

How did it feel cutting out sugar? Any withdraws? Were you eating a lot of sugar previously?

You mean the fake ones i am creating or the ones i pay a physician/doctor/health care assistance?

Well, yeah i surely know they work.

Felt remarkably not that bad, still get some natural sugar from fruit. Little tired the first day. A lot less desire to snack during the day

If I could understand what you're even saying I would reply... Doctors and physicians are given set rules to diet by the governing bodies so they have their own idea what is best for you.

I do keto off and on. Carnivore from my understanding is keto minus the vegetables. If you can handle not having much fiber then I'm sure it could be a good bet in the short term. I'd love a case study into how this works for IBS and related issues.

I'm planning on going as keto as possible in 2019, and utilize OMAD/a 23:1 IF protocol. Of course, i've got about 40 pounds I could stand to lose. From everything I've read, high fat/minimal carb plus IF is incredible for fat loss with muscle retention.

Here is an insane resource: https://tim.blog/2018/06/05/the-tim...om-dagostino-the-power-of-the-ketogenic-diet/
Amazing, it's what I am going to do too! I was testing it 4 months ago for 1 month and it was amazing, full of energy, motivation and enthusiasm. I could work whole day, make 10km walk, then sleep well and wake up early to do it again. |

Also keto + IF 23:1
This is not also for loosing weight, it's energy explosion.
However, I suggest you to eat also some creatine for muscle protection.

Dont cut out veggies

Just cut out grians and sugar + processed food from your diet.

Add ton of variety. Eat 3-4 different kinds of nuts, fruits and veggies plus meat throughout the day.

The nomadic Hunter gatherer that was our ancestors had a shit ton of variety in his diet.

Oh and also avoid veggies from the nightshade family. They are not as good for your gut.

Have you considered that whole thread is about extreme keto diet? I agree, that cutting whole vegies from diet is stupid and short term.
However, keto diet is 20g of carbs each day. It means, you can only eat green vegies like salat and calculate carbs. The rest of vitamins are from meat.

Advice him to eat fruits is anti-keto ;)

Didn't read the whole thread, only the first post by OP.

I dont do any diet.
Just fasting - eat once every 24hr, aiming for 72hr.
but my only record is only 48hr

I decided to Drink water for 10 days, first day is hardest right?

It sounds like a good diet. But prepare to start hating the food eventually. I eat only rice/pasta and chicken with tuna and veggies/fruits every day in pre-weighted ammount and I almost can't stand it... The only way I can keep it up is cheat times (not regular cheat days, but just cheating every holiday or special occasion once a month or two)

I'm a guy who kept the carnivore diet and got sick - my liver had too much to process. That was in 2017. In the meantime, I found out a simple truth, thanks to Elliot Hulse. I also went from 128kg to 86kg in the past 2 years (not because of a diet)
There are no secrets to losing weight, you already know the "magic pill", it's just doing consistent work, but it's hard to change your mindset.

Here are the rules (you already know them):
1. Drink only water! (no gatorade, no vitamin water, no empty calories drink)
2. Elliminate all sugar and starchy carbs. (no bread, no sugar, nothing sweet). Replace it with lots of vegetables and meat.
3. Walk an hour every day (make it fast pace, that is low intensity cardio). Pick up some weights if you want to build muscle too.

Thanks for the post man.

For how long were you on carnivore diet? I hope you are feeling better now.

I have been debating if I should go carnivore or meat and veggies only. I am leaning towards the latter at the moment.

Because carnivore looks deadly. The best is just ketosis with 20-30g carbs from vegetables. You can eat a lot of spinach, salat, tomatos. Some cucumber, onion and other green vegies (unless you take 30g carbs dose). Some fruits are still accepted like avocado or small orange. Last step is important too, I am doing it again from yesterday.

I did the keto diet two years ago and it was wonderful for energy and alertness.

Literally ate only two meals a day, two black coffees and plenty of water.

I found throughout the day my mind was constantly alert and my energy levels remained constant all day without ups or downs.

Last year i ran a vegetarian diet for six months. The first half was great as i was eating plenty of greens, pasta etc. But the second half went down hill as our home life was a bit nuts with work and kids, so it was vegetarian food but tonnes of frozen, less greens etc.

I think from my own experience the best types of diets consist of :

  • Plenty of leafy greens
  • Fruit multiple times a day
  • Seeds and nuts
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Carb sources such as pasta, rice and noodles. Porridge for breakfast.
  • Multiple protein sources but, not in excessive amounts and organic where you can i.e fish, chicken, lamb.
  • Keep Meat sources to 2 - 3 times a week.
You will find that it would be very hard to eat enough of these foods to put on weight.

It is important to stay away from :

  • Processed sugars
  • Too much caffeine
  • Sweets, crisps and biscuits.
  • Too much dairy
If you're having issues with guts like some people in this thread the following can help :

  • Probiotics to help with gut bacteria
  • Pineapple and pure pineapple juice contains compounds which help digest and break down food
  • Digestive enzymes to help break down food
  • Keeping a food dairy to see what foods trigger your symptoms.
And finally i would suggest a minimal amount of exercise if you cant make the gym. A 30 - 45 min walk a day can help keep your guts flowing, blood pumping around your body, oxygen flowing which all helps in feeling better and having an efficient system.

One of my main aims this year is to have one of the healthiest years i have ever had.

I will be following more or less the diet above mainly veg and leafy greens with pasta / noodles. Meat sources twice a week. Fish twice. And plenty of exercise !

Yesterday I found very restrict diet, I think one of the most ever - keto vege. Yes, it's possible. So if you are vege, you can do keto too and load yourself with vitamins.
Anyway, personaly I am going to do semi-vege with keto, fishes and chese allowed. I don't like to eat meat everyday, maybe once/month. Anyway, fishes are great source of fat and proteins.

Just to add.

The condition of a lot of the meat in today's world would make me think twice about doing a meat only diet. The stress on the body of processing a lot of red meat isn't pretty and it also slows down digestion.

If you have sensitive gut issues OP i wouldn't switch to such a drastic diet. I would strip back all meals to just core meals three times a day and make these super simple.

e. g

Breakfast

Porridge cooked in a sauce pan with water, some honey and blueberries - a scoop of protein powder can be mixed in once cooked.

Lunch

Tuna or a meat source with pasta and some veg

Dinner

Protein source with a carb source. Could be a jacket potato with some chicken if not meat then cottage cheese.

This keeps your diet super simple but nutritious and you can add in and take things away easily, depending on how you're feeling.

Cheese is part of a keto diet and so is fish! just make sure if you're eating fish everyday you dont over do it. I have heard of people having elevated levels of mercury from sea caught fish and tuna.

I got sick after 6 weeks of carnivore diet. after that, I had a bit of yoyo effect and after about 2-3 months I started doing the easy way described above
