Lets say you got a backlink from an authority site like Forbes.com

If you get another backlink from Forbes again (but on different page) - what will the power of this 2nd backlink?

I'm assuming it won't be as powerful as the first, because the first has the factor of being a new unique RD. The 2nd link won't have that attribute of course.

So would you guys say that the 2nd link has around 50% of the power of the 1st link? Interested in your thoughts.

If you send a second link to the same destination site, then I believe the power is very small, 10-20% of first link, maybe.

Otherwise you could simply send 2,3,4,5 links whenever you can (example PBN) instead of one, and gain a massive boost. Which obviously does not happen.

The second link has nearly no value in my book, but then it depends if you send it to a different page on the same site. Then I guess the initial juice is split in half between the 2 pages.

I've tested this before. It doesn't weight much for the next few or thousand backlinks from the same website.

Google probably takes in the highest value ONE backlink from that one website only.

Otherwise, people would have gone mad selling "site-wide" backlinks on PBN here.

I am inclined to this as well. Huge authority sites like Forbes might act differently, but with some average PBN sites for example, the risk reward ratio of second like makes no sense.

Good points made guys, many thanks.

A follow up question - if a 2nd backlink from the same domain isn't much use, why do some SEO experts (e.g. Matthew Woodward) claim that multiple tumblr commenting is still a valid ranking strategy nowadays?

Subdomains are treated as separate domains. Especially when it comes to big platforms like Tumblr.

Subdomains are treated as separate domains.

Thanks. What evidence exists that Google classifies subdomains the same as separate domains in terms of SEO?
