Hey mate, yeah unfortunately that is normal.

I believe the current time for monetization review is in the 3-4 month range and there's no way to speed that up. It's possible you'll be reviewed faster but I wouldn't hold my breath.

If your channel doesn't have thousands of subscribers and tens of thousands of views, it's probably not high priority.

Unfortunately, Youtube monetization is not first-come, first serve basis.

The more popular your channel is, the higher is the likelihood for faster approval.

what's your niche? or what type video do have on your channel? If slide show video, then say good bye because your channel never get accepted.

or you can contact them on twitter.

My channel with million of views and 30+k subscribers took a 45 days to get message from YouTube.

I applied for monetization 2 month ago and got monetized within just 3 weeks, don't know why..
Now i applied another channel for monetization , Im still waiting after 4 weeks, its very weird

I take back what I said.

I think what's happening is they are reviewing some channels within a month or so while others require a more extensive review (in which case you'll be waiting up to a few more). Just a theory, and I'm not sure what would flag a channel exactly. There must be a variety of factors their system scans for to determine risk of a channel being a bad actor and if the risk is low you are reviewed faster.

I'm sure they would deal with larger channels before smaller ones for financial reasons however subscribers/views don't seem to be the main factor for review time.

I still waiting too. One friend told me that he just wait 1 week for monetization (The niche is memes from Spain)

What do you mean by Slide show video? I have a channel with all Best photos slideshow, but I create them with AfterEffects Slideshow templates, do you think they will not be monetized?

There is an newsflash from YouTube were Tom talks about slideshows and computer voices, and that they will stop promoting and monetize them in the near future as youtube sees it as bad content.. I'm trying to find the newsflash vid, but don't know what episode it was -> https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGg-UqjRgzhYDPJMr-9HXCg/featured

Found it, At 0:37 he talks monetization and guidelines that change for new and old members.

Thanks for this, never knew this existed before. I see they're trying to be tougher this time. But still there will be a way for us to do something.
My slideshows aren't just normal slideshows, they look really professional with different effects, and I don't use Robot Voice Over at all so hopefully I can pass the monetization part.

Computer voice bad content, as they claimed. But if your video about best photo video, make sure add some creative common video related to your niche. or you can use video non-cc with fair use.

It's an interesting channel to follow, created by YouTube employees. it will keep you up to date on all youtube changes! You also can find your answer here on why it takes so long to enter the YPP after you applied.. Just check their uploads..

I currently have a few channels in review.
The oldest started on Oct 25, so it's been 37 days already.

I had one in late September that got approved after 18 days.
I heard two people got approved after 40 days, who started review on Oct 15. And a few similar reports.

I don't think that popularity or niche matters. The people claiming that have no source and are just making assumptions.

Based on previous data, I'm assuming that, for channels that started review in late Oct, it will take 40-50 days. So for those who have been waiting a month already, probably a week or two more.

For the people who got monetized fast, were any of your subs/views fake? Or 100% real?
