Are Facebook links backlinks?

Hi guys!

I’m pretty sure the answer is no but are facebook links backlinks? I’m thinking about doing a giveaway in which people will share a link from my site to their facebook. Will they count as backlinks or will they benefit me at all besides the publicity their friends will see my site?

I already had a few people share my link on their facebook but I don’t see them coming up on webmaster or when I check a site profiler so I’m assuming it won’t help in my ranking but I don’t know?

No, they won't count as backlink...but you will 100% get popularity and publicity ...

No, you won't find them in google webmaster, they are social shares/signals. Still, they might help but not as a backlink.

What is social signal? Is it just how many times people share my site on social media I’m assuming? Also this helps on ranking?

It doesn't get counted as a normal backlink

Think of it like a citation

The more mentions you get from a public social media page, the more social signal value you get

PLEASE NOTE that you can't put all your eggs in this single basket

There are around 200 other ranking signals but if you only have time and energy to do one: do BACKLINKS

I dont think it counts as a link - as far as I know it is only a citation and treated as such.
