[Help] Keyword ranked for wrong article

As the title says, one of the targeted keyword is ranked for different article.

For instance, the kw is "best laptop for 3D game'. There is a uniqe article written only targeting that kw. All on page factors are optimized, more then 10 days gone.

But the kw is in position 35-36 in serp for an diffrent article on laptop where word "3D " is mentioned somewhere in that article. Should I remove word "3d" or use it as anchor text to linking to the original article?
Any suggestion is apreciated.

How long the other page is ranking for this term?
Dont remove anything on the other page, your focus is to bring the new article on the top not to kill the other page's relevancy. Linking from that other article to new article is good. you can do that.

Are you saying you wrote an article for a phrase, and that article isn't ranking at all - but a different article is?

Maybe just include a contextual link in it, to the one you wrote 10 days ago?

Not yet start any promortion for new article rather than few social share . Honestly it is a 3 months old domain, which is a copy of & 301 redirected from a 1.5 yrs old domain. The new article got no redirection from old domain though.

And I have just checked the ranking of the kw after few days of publishing the newly writen article. It happends 7-8days back.
and found it is in serp for another article.

Yes mate the phrase is in serp result for different article. But the article targeting that phrase is not in serp.

on the other hand the other article has 1000 + words. The smaller article is also in 1st page of serp for its targeted keyword

I would see it as a ranking is still a ranking - is it bringing in any visitors?

It sounds like the 2 articles are related? So linking one to the other could make sense at some point within the content?

I would send an exact match anchor link to the article, only 1 to make it clear to Google that you want to rank for that keyword. After that cycle through Brand, PM's, Generic and Naked anchors.

position 35 might be technically "ranking", but it won't be bringing traffic. Keep an eye on traffic to see if either page is getting traffic for longtail kws you weren't targeting.

i would create an internal link using the anchor "3D" from the ranking article to the one you want to rank. also, take a look at the metrics for both pages - does one have more backlinks or shares?

I think you have not used internal linking properly. It is one of the important factor to rank any keyword.
